While this is great, anyone looking to buy a switch with that many ports should seriously consider buying a used enterprise grade one from eBay. You can very easily find good ones with as many as 48 ports for $35-40, and bonus is that they are managed switches. I recently bought a HP V1910-48G Switch JE009A Baseline 2952-SFP Plus 48 Ports for $35 and it carries a lifetime warranty from HP

Is the switch PoE?
Can you provide a link to one with lifetime warranty?
Thanks

Chances are that if you're buying a network switch, you're likely going to ensure it's hidden somewhere inside a cabinet or in basement for aesthetic reasons unless you enjoy the view of wires sticking out of a device in your living room or in your office. What I mean to say is that, noise is not really an issue if you're going to have this somewhere away

the switch I mentioned is not PoE.. all HPE v1910s carry lifetime warranty. Here's the listing from where I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/294290907764

This is a desktop switch. I have one of these in my home office, and I do not need some loud enormous energy hog sitting next to me on/under my desk.

The switch you listed, HP V1910-48G, pulls up to 60 watts, while the Netgear unit posted requires a maximum of 4 watts. laugh out loud With the annual electricity savings you could buy 3 of these.
I really would not suggest a large switch like that for anyone that is not rack mounting their equipment in a separate area and has a purpose for a managed switch.

Fair enough, and I think you're missing the point. The one I cited was simply an example. The point here is that you can find cheaper more reliable enterprise grade switches on eBay if you simply look around a bit. You're right about power consumption, and it's max rated. Keep in mind 60w is for 48 ports (100% traffic, all ports plugged in). Per port is 1.25 which for 8 ports comes out to be 12w. Still no where near the 4w of this desktop switch, but not an energy hog either
