I was one of reviewers that posted about the smell. Well its been about 2 weeks and almost all the smell is gone now. Jacket is Ok to wear in layers.

I have this jacket. I bought it at my local warehouse for $39. I kinda have an illness when it comes to jackets, knives, and watches. Anyways, it's pretty warm for what it is. Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a hem cord so can't completely seal out the cold from the bottom. But there is an elastic there so not completely open. Other than that I think you can't beat it for the price. It's 650 fill power and according to the tag, sustainably sourced. No smell on mine.

Edit: I misspoke. After checking, I can confirm there is no elastic or draw cord at the hem of this jacket.

Bought it a few weeks ago in store for $35. Definitely a warm jacket for southern winters (Atlanta) without much layering. Only downside was that mine smells too (my kids thought I'd been out in the yard with fertilizer), and will be washing it to see if that helps. Still a good price/value with the hood and it being 650 fill

For anyone asking about a smell, I bought a vest from EB, and the first few times I used it, I smelled like wet dog, especially when the heat/moisture radiated from my body. The smell was noticeable for a month or so, and then subsided. Love the vest now that it does not smell. I assume this would be a similar scenario here.

I don't think that's the intent of a cheap jacket like this, but I'd say yes. I can squeeze it down to the size equal to my Patagonia down sweater without much effort. Doesn't stuff into itself though.
