With Reflect for cloning and Easeus partition master, you got everything needed and both are free.
Getting a free copy just for the fun of it. Very likely this doens't have anything I can't do already with Clonezilla and Macrium Reflect. Was super impressed with Macrium when I saw that it allowed you to even boot a backed up image in a VM and run the OS that way. I can do the samething with Clonezilla but it is way more involved than the simple click and go from Macrium and for free.

Anyone have suggestions on a good free data recovery software? I bought a Western Digital Mycloud network drive, backed up several TB of photos only to discover a few months later when I upgraded my router the drive disappeared from my network, WD's response was a destructive reboot. I shucked the drive but it turns out it saves everything as Linux files so I'm looking for a windows based recovery option that can find Linux files. Thanks!!

Could you not just change your routing table to include an ip range that the cloud was configured for?

Have you tried a LiveCD Linux Distribution? I think I have used https://gparted.org/livecd.php
successfully in the past with the aformentioned Testdisk from cgsecurity.org to recover "trashed" drives several times.

Need a tool that will help me with the "Hard Drive Not Detected" issue. I've already tried switching bays and different SATA cables and other solutions offer via Google search but none worked. Frown

I use Macrium for NVME boot drive imaging (moved from EaseUS because it wouldn't restore well). For D: onward letter data drives, I use a sync tool. I HIGHLY recommend Bvckup 2, it's cheap, lightweight, very very stable, and has excellent support and options. If a data drive dies there's no cloning or trickiness necessary, it's just mirrored onto an external. Pop in another internal drive, recopy back, and you have everything as it was. It's a better option than imaging or incremental backups of data. Your backed up data files are always accessible and useful if needed as well.

I literally just encountered this exact problem with a WD MYCLOUD device. It's taken me over a week, but I've recovered all my data.

If you're interested, this is the process that has worked for me: After shucking the drive, I connected it to my laptop with a Unitek USB 3.0 to IDE and SATA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EHDT...b_ap_share and used Paragon's Linux File System for Windows https://www.paragon-software.com/...s-windows/. (It's free if you use it within the trial period.) From there, it's pretty self-explanatory. I just transferred all the files to another networked storage. This saved a HUGE amount of irreplaceable files for me.

I hope that helps you out!

Tried it to see if it could recover deleting 2 partitions with various data. NOPE! Recovered the partition index but mounted it as "RAW" and no data on the disk.

*UPDATE*
After doing a deep scan or extended, don't quite remember. I did a 'check file system' on the RAW disk and then it uncovered all of my files. So there's a few extra steps you have to do, but I'm officially impressed for something that's free.

This drive was my DATA drive with all of my backed-up movies and TV shows. I was in the process of migrating from a PC Plex Server to a NAS Plex Server and thought the drive was already migrated. Sadly I disk parted and about cried because I'd have to dig out all of those disks from the attic and that would have taken a good chunk of my time.

Danger, danger, danger! You are giving them the right to gather your activity from your device. Read the legal details and then run.

It's a lost cause. In 50 year's time there will be 'awesome' freeware offers with 1000+ upvotes and all you need to do is upload your genome and install the free included webcam in your living room. It's not creepy; it's just market research. What do you expect for "free" ? Etc, etc.

A past use for this program that Reflect didn't do (at least at the time): Accessing a Mac system HDD on a Windows PC for file recovery.

Edit: Nevermind. It's a different program from Paragon.

Your first step should have been (if you didn't do it), to do a 4 second reset and if that didn't work, a 40 second reset. (https://support-en.wd.com/app/ans...a_id/27402) Especially if you configured, through the My Cloud Dashboard, a static IP address for the unit. Next, as a troubleshooting step, if you can reach the My Cloud Dashboard with a web browser; change the My Cloud SMB setting to SMB1.0 if one is using the My Cloud OS5 v5.x firmware. (https://support-en.wd.com/app/ans...a_id/29958) Then there is the issue of updating supported My Cloud devices to OS5. MANY, MANY complaints about the unit becoming inaccessible in the WD support forums. (https://community.wd.com/) It appears the cause is related to the "indexing" the My Cloud does on OS5. The workaround, assuming one can access the My cloud Dashboard is to disable remote access/cloud access and disable Twonky if installed. (https://support-en.wd.com/app/ans...a_id/30021)

Generally shucking the hard drive from a My Cloud (not My Cloud Home since the Home line is completly different than the My Cloud line) is usually a last resort. Because it's formatted for Linux one needs to either use Linux (like a Linux boot disc/flash drive) or run a Linux driver on Windows. There are various free and paid third party Linux drivers one can use to read a shucked My Cloud drive:

Linux File Systems for Windows by Paragon Software

Ext2Fsd Project

DiskInternals Linux Reader

Ext2explore
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2read/

Mount a Linux disk in WSL 2 (certain versions of Windows)

Do you have a link to these "legal details"? I looked at their site and didn't notice anything that mentioned this...

FYI - Took further look at the company / terms and noticed NO red flags related to privacy concerns.

There are so many companies doing shady things now with persona information but Paragon does not seem to be one of them... I have no idea what the two other posters were referencing.

Seems to be another %$@^%^# wasting the time of complete strangers on the internet. Not sure if they were trolls or just stupid.
