These were $99 last year during Black Friday. Great set of headphones. Very comfortable, good soundstage, emphasis on bass but not muddy.

The SHP9600 are a sidegrade rather than an upgrade from the SHP9500. They're tuned to be a little more enjoyable for music, but are worse for competitive gaming (FPS, etc). The 9500 emphasize treble quite a bit more, so they're great for recognizing where footsteps and gunshots are coming from, but that emphasis on treble makes music less enjoyable and more fatiguing for some, including myself. I use them for some games, but the pronounced treble is really unpleasant for me with music. You can EQ them, but there are better headphones for enjoying music for the money. The 9600 are a little better for music, but you can get better for the price. I honestly don't see a point to the 9600. Both extremely comfortable, since they have almost no clamping force (they will fall off your head if you move around too much), if you can get over the 90's Honda Civic fabric material on the earcups.
Thanks!

IMHO this one is overrated

I bought it a year ago and returned it in a week. Same story with the SHP9500.

Muddy bass, even mid and treble lack clarity, not to mention it is open.

The best phone I bought under $100 is AKG N60NC, which was $60 (twice during the past year or two).

I agree that there are better cans for the money. The Sennheiser HD58X can be had for $120 when they're on sale, and are much better headphones for music. Just like these, they don't need an amp and can be driven perfectly fine from a PC's onboard audio (unlike the 6XX, which are my main headphones). As for having an issue with them being open, I much prefer open back over closed back, since I use them at home. I have a set of AKG K371 for the rare times someone in the house is watching a movie with the volume really high. Open backs are useless out in public, but I'd much rather use earbuds for that instead of lugging around big headphones, anyways.

I've been using these for the past 3 years as my primary gaming headset paired with a A40 mixamp. Easily one of the best "budget" setups for online / competitive gaming applications. Great soundstage for hearing footsteps or audio queues in game and very comfortable to wear for extended "sweaty" sessions of gaming.

I can't comment on how these are for music and videos but the few times I've used them they've been alright. I think 6XX sound better for those applications but also cost more. For gaming setup these are a no-brainer at this price.

Had one for a while now, and they're very comfy and really beefy . Definitely not for people who want 'compact' stuff.

games and movies are sound great on it, good soundstage and its great for music also ,its on the bass heavy side but its not muddy ,like more mellow and warm.

for casual listening its awesome and very comfortable well worth $125 using it probably more than my more expensive ones.

Ordered a 'Used-Like New' set. I have an older set of X2. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference. Planning to give the X2s to my dad.
Unless they are fake it is exactly same headphones.

40mm vs. 50mm? $85 vs. 126? which is better?
Depends on your taste. The 9600 and x2hr are both well regarded. More bass with x2hr.

There is a $20 coupon available for the L2, which brings it down to $65. I have it and can't think of better sounding headphones at that price.

However I use it more when I go outside since it is kind of portable and has good noise isolation. When at home I use my SHP9600 or HD599 since they are way more comfortable to me. Those two I could use for a whole week without any problems.

Had these for a few days before returning them, and sounded very dull. Out of all I had to me these were really mediocre… Just my opinion. Best to All!
