That was actually gen z…but ok….
The fact that you older people don't realize that millennials are around 25-40 now, is concerning, to say the least.
Tip for some boomers, bleach isn't either. https://youtu.be/Z36OznHFIt4
As good and cheaper if you use them according to directions, for some of them, you gotta put some on the bottom of the machine as well as the cup, but the total cost of packs is pretty cheap and it's not going to change your life if you go loose powder vs pack, you're just paying for convenience.

If you're lazy or have arthritis or shakey hands, saving a step with packs may be worth it

Here's a 30 minute long video on dishwashers and disher washer detergent, the gist is: you can't go wrong unless you use the product wrong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rBO8neWw04

I use both, I use packs and loose as a booster or just some loose if I'm running a half load.

Take a look at one star reviews.
I did, that's why I asked if you were seeing standout negative reviews from other places. Combining Walmart and Amazon, there are nine, one-star reviews from the 759 total reviews (1% of them). I guess our negative review thresholds are pretty far apart.

Great price and gave it a TU, but note CR did not rate these. CR gives the 115 ct Kirkland brand container from Costco (around $10) a Best Buy and it is also one of their highest rated dishwasher detergents. So, if you're looking for a definite proven winner at the best price, the Costco Kirkland brand is a sure bet. If you want to roll the dice, with a 15% S&S, the 36 pack here comes out to less than 10 cents a pod. The Costco 115 ct @ $10 is less than 9 cents per pod (and sometimes, but rarely, is discounted at Costco).

Just a data point. I have used this brand of packs a year ago and I hated them. There was a strong detergent smell after the wash, and some dishes felt like there was a soapy film on them. I didn't have this problem with casade or finish tablets.

Lately, nothing works in my dishwasher. Dishes and glasses come out with white, powdery residue on them. Plumber said try no heat drying. I think water is not hot enough and we have very, very hard water here. Hot water heater is cranked up all the way. Only one hot water heater. Not enough for size of my home.

Lemishine will help with the hard water stains.

I was having a similar issue, but every time I'd start the dishwasher it would emit this disgusting sewage smell for a while during the start, and even when I didn't use the dishwasher it would stink when you'd open it. So looked it up and it turns out there are products that solve both your problem and mine. The one I used that solved my problem so far for over a week now (and I saw in the review photos that it should also solve yours) is this:

Finish Dual Action Dishwasher Cleaner: Fight Grease & Limescale, Fresh, 8.45oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010OVN...Q0F5XSF14E

But there were multiple brands with good reviews if you just search up dishwasher cleaner. I was headed to the store anyways so just bought mine at Walmart and it's only like 10 cent more there. I set up a monthly sub on Amazon for it after seeing how well it worked.

Boomers keep getting older but the damn youth of the nation stays the same age!

Have you tried removing and cleaning your dishwasher filter? That worked for me when my dishes were not coming out clean.

I found that my dishwasher filter was clogged with baked on powder detergent. I had to replace some parts of the filter because I could not clean the baked on gunk out of the tiny holes on the filter parts. Now, my dishwasher cleans so much better.

Just cleaned out the filter and spray tubes, made a big difference no smell and no residue.
Be warned if you never cleaned the filter it's an eye opener!

Check the seal around the door. Sometimes those trap gunk in them and definitely stink.
Also Tang works great for cleaning your dishwasher:
