MSI: less bulky and less tacky gamer aesthetics but worse GPU and worse ports availability.

Dell: Better GPU performance but the most tacky and bulky. Plenty of ports.

Summary: If you care about portability and looks, then MSI one is better but there are other laptops that does this much better. Otherwise, Dell one serve better both performance wise and as a workstation due to ports availability.
Assuming you purchased an open box model, you do not get a warranty. (returned my dell g5 with a 6600m for this exact reason)

You would get a 2 year warranty on the laptop from Costco.

The 2070 is probably about 5% faster than the 6600m most of the time but they will trade blows in titles that favor team green or team red.

The CPU however has 2 more cores and 4 more threads, a higher single core benchmark score and would most certainly be an upgrade

Both screens have a response time of around 4-5ms and a similar color accuracy (according to online reviews) so really it would come down these key differences for me:

Warranty
CPU
GPU
Screen size
Weight

and then how important each of those things are to you.

The MSI is probably the better performing machine overall, but the Dell is probably slightly better when it comes to gaming due to having a (slightly) more powerful GPU and the fact that the i7 has a higher boost clock
Userbenchmark is HORRIBLE. Use Notebookcheck. It even lets you compare to desktop GPUs in case you're not set on a particular form factor.

Do you specifically mean the Swift X has inadequate cooling to achieve the expected 3050 Ti performance?

Or do you mean that the 3050 Ti only achieves about 2/3 of the performance of either the 6600M or 3070 Max-Q that people have been discussing?
I have the swift x and its more of a portable productivity machine thats capable of light gaming This one has a better cpu and higher wattage gpu. But that being said if portability is not important to you i would get the msi. I personally prefer portability and the swift x is one of the best performers in the weight class at barely over 3lbs

Good thing i bought a 100w 3060 omen for a couple dollars over $1000 back in May and am not stuck with a poverty spec AMD GPU..... There's way better $1000 options than this thing....
Poverty spec amd GPU?

Yeah you have the poverty spec AMD CPU, Omen 15 limits it to 35 watts when the GPU is active, pathetic LMFAO

You bought the only laptop that has such a sad CPU limit. All competitiors do the normal 45w+, just like the 5800H is supposed to do(it's a 45w tdp CPU ofc). Also your display has freesync until 60hz, so you don't even have freesync above 60hz. This is also something unique to the Omen 15.

These dumbfarks actually downvoted me twice for saying what I said.

Absolutely hilarious and insane, people are clueless on Slickdeals.

I have this - the panel isn't color accurate and bright with no freesync, the 6600M is only slightly better than an rtx 2060 115w. CPU is good though and thermals are excellent along with great battery life. Overall just get the Lenovo legion instead if a grand is your max budget
Point us to a Lenovo legion with the equivalent of a 3060 graphics card for 1k?

Can someone help me compare?

I purchased a Dell G7 7700 ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell...Id=6416473 [bestbuy.com] ) for $960 including taxes (I live in Oregon so no sales taxes, but I purchased out of state).

I had all the regular issues of throttling many have complained of until I reinstalled windows without the added Dell software and it has been perfect since.

I purchased from Best Buy and I think I have until the sixth to return it.

Assuming when I return it, they will return my tax paid (not sure if they do), is this laptop an upgrade? It's only $40 more and from Costco. But it's also a lot of hassle considering the Dell g7 works just fine.

Thoughts?
If you want to stay in this price point, return the dell and get the MSI Leopard GP66 from costco for $1500. I7 11800h and RTX3070 are better than the dell you have.

I'm pretty sure $1500 is a lot more money than $960.

My bad, if you click the link its $1500 now. In that case I'd just keep the dell.

Just like this one is normally $1300 and on sale for $999 right now you're going to have to wait for a sale but I would look into an Omen or Legion over this... The $850 3060 people were talking about from bestbuy was a lower wattage 80w version, you're going to want to be around 100w+ esp if you're looking at a 3060. I do not suggest any mobile 3000 series gpus below a 3060 you might as well get a 115w 2060 at that point. I tried a few different models last year before ultimately keeping a 5600h/3060 100w omen for around $1050 shipped and just purchased a MSI gp66 leopard 11800h/3070 135w model for $1499 from costco. The 100w 3060 in the omen out performed an 85w 3070 that was in an asus tuf15 dash model I bought and returned to bestbuy last year. I also tried an 80w 3060 in a lower tier msi machine from costco and while decent performing you get much more bang for your buck with the higher wattage variants. Mild OC's the Omen timespy score is 8500 and the leopard is 11,300, the lower end 3060 msi was around 7400 and the tuf 3070 was around 7600 due to also having a gimpy 4c/8t "i7".
