Except you could get an MSI 3060 laptop out the door door fur under $900 at BB ~ month ago.
That MSI 3060 laptop is utter dogshit. It's the slowest 3060 laptop on the planet, suffers from a bad hinge design, has poor thermals, and a horrible display(dim, horrible colors, bad response times for gaming)

I swear the 3060 is like 60 or 70w with low CPU wattage.

I have no idea why people believe all laptops are made the same, or that they have the same performance if they have the same GPU. Everyone has talked about how Nvidia is allowing vendors to use whatever wattage they want on laptops. People need to do research on Slickdeals, it's the most ripe of bad laptop recommendations and people who do not understand laptops. MSI is the worst budget laptop brand on the planet, outside of the HP pavilions

The dell has a better screen. But cpu better in the MSI. I suggest you just go to gpu.userbenchmark.com and type in 2070 mobile vs 6600m.
Userbenchmark is horribly anti-AMD is a dogshit website. My god have mercy on its clueless users. https://youtu.be/RQSBj2LKkWg video about userbenchmark.

Is this Adobe compatible for gpu acceleration? I see all GeForce in the list but cant find this one
If your doing actual work, the screen is nowhere near color accurate to be used with image or video editing.

Can someone help me compare?

I purchased a Dell G7 7700 ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell...Id=6416473 ) for $960 including taxes (I live in Oregon so no sales taxes, but I purchased out of state).

I had all the regular issues of throttling many have complained of until I reinstalled windows without the added Dell software and it has been perfect since.

I purchased from Best Buy and I think I have until the sixth to return it.

Assuming when I return it, they will return my tax paid (not sure if they do), is this laptop an upgrade? It's only $40 more and from Costco. But it's also a lot of hassle considering the Dell g7 works just fine.

Thoughts?
When I buy something, I make sure I am ok with the specs for the price point. My next laptop is going to have at least an OLED screen and I know how much I want to spend and what processor speed I want. Memory is always upgradeable, GPU is nice to have, but not a deal breaker for me. My point is, I find what I want at the price I want, and after I buy it, I stick with it. There is always going to be better tech after you buy at a better price. How much are you going to gain/lose and is it worth your time to exchange this? You've already invested some time with this device, so keep that in mind.

MSI: less bulky and less tacky gamer aesthetics but worse GPU and worse ports availability.

Dell: Better GPU performance but the most tacky and bulky. Plenty of ports.

Summary: If you care about portability and looks, then MSI one is better but there are other laptops that does this much better. Otherwise, Dell one serve better both performance wise and as a workstation due to ports availability.
The 2070 Max-Q and 6600M have almost identical performance: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mob...844.0.html

What about this vs. the Acer Swift X 5800u with 3050ti ? Grabbed one of the Swifts at $764+tax. off ebay acer with 2yr warr.
You can't compare them. Swift X is not a "gaming" laptop.

Userbenchmark is HORRIBLE. Use Notebookcheck. It even lets you compare to desktop GPUs in case you're not set on a particular form factor.

Do you specifically mean the Swift X has inadequate cooling to achieve the expected 3050 Ti performance?

Or do you mean that the 3050 Ti only achieves about 2/3 of the performance of either the 6600M or 3070 Max-Q that people have been discussing?

My son is going off to college next fall. He games a lot and will be studying cyber security. Will this laptop be a good option? His birthday is in a month and my wife and I are looking to get him laptop that will hopefully make it through college but also able to do everything he'd need it to. Thanks for any help. I know nothing about gaming laptops.

AMD GPU's are just fine if you aren't super hardcore. I imagine his laptop didn't come with a 2 to 4 years of extra warranty for under 1k either.
