I took a quick look at eBay and 1080 (non-Ti) cards in working condition are still usually selling for $500. Local sale prices (for cash) would probably be more like $400. So, if you assume the high end value for the 1080, that makes the rest of the PC $350

A 6700K sells for at least $100-150... and that is just the CPU by itself with no cooler or anything. For used RAM and PSU, I'd say $50 each. Used small SSD, only $25 b/c really this is only for Windows OS/boot drive and you'll need to buy another SSD to actually install games. Cooler I consider a freebie on a completed system. Who knows when the AIO may fail. Air tower coolers are more reliable long-term IME (I have one over 10 years old still running with the original fan).

I know a lot of other replies here say that the total value should be $500 but that is too low unless they are all finding used 1080s for cheaper than what I'm seeing. I'd say a 1080 by itself in working condition is worth $400-500.

Personally ... I'd estimate the total value at $750 if you assume the 1080 is worth $500. Or $650 if you assume the 1080 is $400.

BUT - That assumes you are okay with buying an older PC. That RAM is almost 2 generations old at this point and the CPU is pretty long in the tooth. Over time, you'll be spending more money on electricity due to the inefficiency of the CPU not to mention you'll probably peg the CPU easily depending on what you are doing.

If it were me personally... I'd rather buy a used 1080 for a full $500 and buy a brand new CPU and do a fresh build. Or for that matter, just swallow $800 and get a 3060Ti from a scalper if $500 for a 1080 is your reference point. The 3060Ti is noticeably more powerful than a 1080, can do Ray Tracing, and also far more energy efficient as well. With an AMD CPU, you can run a 3060 Ti on a 500W PSU no problem. I'm running dual GPUs on a 600W PSU this very moment and I've never even pulled 500W from the wall even during a stress test.

I'm still waiting on my HP envy desktop that I ordered on Dec 1 and was supposed to ship out Dec 22, now revised to Jan 4 shipping. I am not sure if that's gonna happen.

Price?
I would say 'yes' if you can go get it now and the price is reasonable. The 1080 is still a great card and outperforms the 1660 super. BUT - I will caution that I have 2 separate 1080 cards and both are starting to show signs of memory degradation. Essentially, they no longer work at peak overclocks and even require slight underclocking to keep them from crashing my gaming system. Fairly heavy usage cards overall though, so that is likely why they are degrading, but its interesting that I am only running into this issue on the 1080.
Considering the age of the GTX1080, perhaps the thermal pads sitting on the memory chips simply needs replacement as they dry out over time. If the pad is degraded, the chips will run hot, which could explain why you're having to underclock it.

This is an amazing deal if you're fine with 1080p - 2K gaming at non-ultra fast FPS. A GTX 1660 Super is usually commanding $350+ by itself thru legit sellers (eg MicroCenter, Newegg, Best Buy). I paid something like $320 for my PNY GTX1660 Super from Best Buy last January. Pairing the GTX1660-Super with my i7-9700k, I was able to play Forza Horizon 5 on High settings on my 2K display and getting a constant 60-FPS in Horizon 5. Upgraded it to a RTX3080 (from Newegg Shuffle) in the fall so I'll be giving it to my nephew if he decides to build a gaming rig this year.

Visa and Mastercard regulations dictate that they only charge when they ship.

Tell that to my $2600 that has been confirmed charged since November and not shipping until February. They DO charge up front. Confirmed twice on different PCs (GT13-1350st).

I think it's due to the fact that it's "custom" built. If it does not give you any options to customize and is a true pre-built, then it probably charges once shipped.

Yep, same here. I knew that going into it, but we should strive for accuracy here.

They might have some requirement to inform you after 60 days that your order is (still) not shipping, and give you the option to cancel. But there's not VISA/MC requirement to only charge when they ship. How else would you ever buy something that's custom made after you place your order?

In all seriousness, is this worth it for the graphics card alone? I already have a decent system, but have been looking for a graphics card with no luck. Could repurpose this for parents.

It's decent. Last month, you could get this same build with the RTX 3060 for $722, but you had to buy two of 'em. If you can really repurpose the "rest" of the PC, then yeah it's a decent deal. It's getting harder to get a 3060 pre-built for under $900, but if you really want a much better GPU, you'll have to be patient and/or pay a fair bit more.

$850, it's been the guys main pc since he built it.

17-6700K processor, overclockable (stable 4.4ghz)

- 1080 GPU: (STRIX-GTX1080-8G-GAMING),

- MSI Z170A GAMING M5 LGA 1151 Intel Z170

- 16GB, G.SKILL TridentZ Series, overclockable

- NZXT Kraken liquid AIO cooler (CPU) - Seasonic 850w fully modular power supply (80+gold)

- 250GB Solid State Drive: Samsung EVO

All insights are much appreciated, haven't bought a pc for about a decade.

There are two slots, both of which are already occupied.
Occupied by 2 sticks of 1.2V 22-22-22-52 RAM.

If you put in anything that intends to use XMP it's going to run at the motherboard default of 2133. So you could get RAM with fast timings, but the frequency is capped AND you have to look at the timings to see what you'll actually get. Ryzen Master can be used to mess with the "speed," but it's not a great way to do it.

I landed on these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C4VH...ct_details - runs at 3200 plug and play. 8GB was $29.99 a few days ago. Timings are bad, but these things are so locked down I figure it's wise to just play within the rules since I made the decision to save the money and buy a pre-built in the first place.

Yes, i7-8700/1060 3gb is more than enough. Those multiplayer games are designed to be playable on as many PCs as possible, and as such, their requirements are quite modest.
Just visited home and got around 5fps on my 2500k / 8800 GTX for CSGO. Pretty respectable 😂

I bought 4 of these the last time they came up on sale and Ebay'd the video cards. My auctions averaged $420/card after Ebay auction fees. So I got some decent desktops for $219 each.
