Using GameStop PUR $5 certificates on digital currency was a popular slick deal, turning a $15 membership into a $45 profit.

Effective immediately, $5 monthly reward certificates are no longer applicable to digital currency. I just tried to use it in store and was told it no longer works and I have linked a post from someone posting the internal memo.

Hopefully this PSA can save people some gas or rile up some protests from customers to change their policy.

The workaround around is...

1. Buy a used game at 4.99
2. Return within 7 days as store credit.
3. Put store credit towards digital card of your choice.

More work than I want to do but since people are wondering and the original guy who brought it up is going off on a weird flex.

Thanks for the heads up, you saved me gas. I contacted their customer support to cancel my membership, they told me no refunds past 7 days.

Returns are "up to their "discretion", so if a random employee thinks you're abusing returns, they could refuse you. You could just try different locations, I guess, but then you enter the territory of "is this with the time for $5 territory"

Good point. I was already at the point of "is a $5 gift card worth the drive" - definitely not worth haggling with some underpaid GS employee.
