Using GameStop PUR $5 certificates on digital currency was a popular slick deal, turning a $15 membership into a $45 profit.
Effective immediately, $5 monthly reward certificates are no longer applicable to digital currency. I just tried to use it in store and was told it no longer works and I have linked a post from someone posting the internal memo.
Hopefully this PSA can save people some gas or rile up some protests from customers to change their policy.

Hey can you please tell us the link?

just click on "don't have a receipt? click here" and let them know how you feel about this change.
The in store code code for some reason is separate from the online one. It should show up when you're checking out online above your payments.
I tried to use online code last year, there's no options for "apply coupon" but there's now? Weird
What did best buy do exactly?

Go the Gamestop website (or use Google), select 5 random stores, and call to inquire if they price match. You don't need to drive to any of them, just call. You will hear five different versions of the policy. This is common of different Gamestop stores. Employees enforce chain-wide policies in different ways. It is one of the most frustrating aspects of the company for many people.
MOST responses will be some version of "yes." They are most receptive to price-matching their own website.
It is understandable that after having a negative experience at your local store that you will assume that the incorrect employee knows better than random internet users, but the objective truth is that the store employee, per current corporate policy, was wrong. Either ignorant or insolent, he or she lied to you.
You are free to believe what you like, but that does not alter the policy.
Good luck
I knew personally the guy in charge of this department while I was there. He was on the verge of doing this at least 2 years ago, but then he left the company. I'm nearly certain this exploit has lasted this long only because the new people that came after weren't paying attention.
I'll reach out to some friends on the inside, but I'm sure the answer will be what everyone suspects: It was just being used by too many people to go unaddressed.
Lol yall are so entitled. There's minimal margin on digital currency and its simply not sustainable. The only way it will work is if people buy items more than the $5 on higher margin items. Just be thankful you got to work a loophole for a long as you have. Scummy. Lmao

This makes sense. Allowing people to do this is simply bad business.

How long will this $7.00 item be around for sale? Eventually it will go away as this particular game becomes older/obsolete, right?
