Using GameStop PUR $5 certificates on digital currency was a popular slick deal, turning a $15 membership into a $45 profit.

Effective immediately, $5 monthly reward certificates are no longer applicable to digital currency. I just tried to use it in store and was told it no longer works and I have linked a post from someone posting the internal memo.

Hopefully this PSA can save people some gas or rile up some protests from customers to change their policy.

I just recently joined PUR and will be locked in for 12 months obviously.

How long will this $7.00 item be around for sale? Eventually it will go away as this particular game becomes older/obsolete, right?
It will go away quicker the more people talk about it. So if you want them to fix it in a couple of months, keep discussing it.

For me this is both good and bad.

Bad because I like getting my $5 of Nintendo Eshop credit each month (with the occasional purchase of something else)

Good because I kind of hate having to drive and go out of my way each month just to physically go into a GameStop store to get my $5 credit.

I was on the verge of not renewing already so this just made my mind up for me. I guess I'll just grab a pack of Pokémon cards each month and then cash out all of my points and never look back.

Also, they really screwed up my physical magazine as well. I got it for years just fine and then when I resubscribed in September they stopped sending it to me. Since September I've only received one copy so far. They ended up giving me like 15 or 20k points to make up for it. This company sucks.

Oh and it also sucks the couple of times I wanted to actually use my coupon online when purchasing physical games and merchandise because they do NOT let you use this along with any other promotions. They treat this like a discount or coupon code so it won't work with any B1G1 or some % off of a new game when you get a used game or anything.

what have they changed? i thought their rewards arent digital currency anyway. we used to convert them to amazon cash but then they stopped selling amazon kindle giftcards.
You can't use BB rewards to buy ANY type of giftcard or digital currency (like PSN or Xbox money). I think they made that change around the time they axed the gamer club.

Found out about this on the 2nd when we were denied and they didn't know what was going on. I suspected immediately that it was too coincidental with the new year that it wasn't just axed instead. They're facing lawsuits since no change of service was sent out so good luck with that GS. I'm good; already sitting on a ton of Xbox credit because Game Pass has me set for a loooooooong time.

As others have noted, buying "The Crew Extreme Car Pack" online for $7 does give you $7 Microsoft credit.

Sorry, not that i know off.

I don't play roblox so not sure on this but this may work. If you have an xbox, you may be able to buy stuff on the xbox roblox game using the MS credit.

Nice. just renewed last month using trade credit so I can't even chargeback. I'd recommend anyone who recently renewed to dispute with your credit card company that they changed the terms of the membership which was actively used a selling point.

I would visit the store monthly to redeem my coupon and would occasionally pick up some other items. I'll probably only go a couple times of year now if that and it won't be dedicated trips like before. Going to seriously reduce foot traffic and extra sales but I also understand they were probably bleeding money because digital currency is a low/zero margin item.
Just that, they didn't change their T&C, if you actually read them. They specifically write at least twice that their terms are subject to change without notice, which is kind of BS, but it's in there. You have no legal standing, but as a group of paying customers, maybe they'll listen.

This makes sense. Allowing people to do this is simply bad business.
Then don't sell customers on a benefit like buying digital currency, that's doing business in bad faith

Thanks I'll pay $2 to not have to go to the store - now just need one like this for Nintendo digital currency!

They didn't market it in such a way. Maybe a few rogue stores did, and yes that still falls on corporate, but I've never ever seen them market out in such a way. In fact, it'd be counterintuitive for them to market it in such a way. Why in the world would they want to encourage people to buy something they make relatively nothing on?
