Using GameStop PUR $5 certificates on digital currency was a popular slick deal, turning a $15 membership into a $45 profit.

Effective immediately, $5 monthly reward certificates are no longer applicable to digital currency. I just tried to use it in store and was told it no longer works and I have linked a post from someone posting the internal memo.

Hopefully this PSA can save people some gas or rile up some protests from customers to change their policy.

I can confirm that I was able to trade in my monthly $5 (plus some points) towards a gift card at the same store that turned me away a few days ago. Note that this is likely to change in a more "official" way (e.g. with some sort of communication perhaps?) but at least we get one more month.

That sucks. I just heard from someone on Reddit that you could use points not get digital credit. I had planned on going and cashing out my 30k on an eshop card and then being done with GS
Try it now. It looks like they reverted the policy for January. I was able to put my monthly $5 and points towards a card today after being rejected a few days ago.

This one worked for me, i had to buy $1 preowned game to pickup in store to checkout, can't checkout with $0.

Like see in description it should say "
Price shown is for currency to be used in your Microsoft account. Sales tax is not included. At redemption, state and local taxes may apply based on the address of the Microsoft account of the redeeming party."

Only those will work
How easy or hard is it to cancel that store pickup part of your order later? Or do you absolutely have to go in and pick it up and return it?

It said on hold for 7 days, i am not going to pick it up, hopefully it will cancel at end of 7 days and refund my $1, i didn't go to store or call them. I will let you know in 4 more days when my hold expires. By the way they changed policy back and can get coupon on digital currency also.

Thanks. Yes, I know, but this Trials thing makes it so I don't have to go into the store at all to get that $5 in XBox/MSFT credit Smilie

Would the workaround work for the following item?

https://www.gamestop.com/video-ga...37394.html

It costs $5.49 so would only end up 49 cents after purchase but would it also give Microsoft credit rather than the actual "battle packs"?

EDIT-I took the plunge. It does NOT work. If The Crew works stick with that.
Look for games with the following in the description: "Price shown is for currency to be used in your Microsoft account. Sales tax is not included. At redemption, state and local taxes may apply based on the address of the Microsoft account of the redeeming party."

No they don't! They don't even price match their own website! I've had to put an online order in while standing in the store to buy the item right in front of Me at the lower price! and they've told me on more than one occasion they don't price match their own site. so why would they price match someone else's

Yes, they absolutely DO! They verify the price and then scan a page in their promo guide to do the override.

Just search. https://pricematchguarantee.net/g...ice-match/

I might buy that next month if my in-store pickup has issues, like getting refund i mean

Seconding the price match policy for their own website, at retail store. It is a process. If you have an employee that doesn't know how to do it, or a manager that doesn't like you, then you're SOL.

In my instance, the manager did a price match, but "accidentally" added in 0.99. This was a random GameStop I went to, so I'm not a regular there.

Good luck to any price matchers out there

Can confirm, I was able to do it on Friday. Associate told me they received guidance from corporate that morning that they reversed course and would allow it for January, but they should be expecting a revised policy for February, because there were too many people trying to "milk the system". I too was told by an associate that I could trade for digital currency when I signed up, which was a major selling point and no brainer to me. However, if they discontinue this policy, I understand because it makes no business sense, but I won't be renewing my membership. Without this, the only thing that makes it worthwhile is the bonus when trading in consoles, which I hardly ever do.

I purchase digital games almost exclusively, which is why I like trading for currency. I made the mistake of purchasing Battlefield 2042 digital copy through gamestop, and now I find out they have a no returns policy on digital products. If I had purchased it through the xbox store, I could have returned it for being broken garbage.

I just successfully applied my $5 reward toward a $10 Nintendo eshop credit. No hassles at all. I tried my usual $5 credit but that wasn't an option my associate could find in the POS. So maybe the post above is right that they've changed course for January or maybe you can still apply it for 5 off 10. Hopefully the latter, not as good as 5 off 5, but 5 off 10 is a fair compromise I think.

As others have noted, buying "The Crew Extreme Car Pack" online for $7 does give you $7 Microsoft credit.
  1. Buy The Crew Extreme Car Pack $7 https://www.gamestop.com/video-ga...09109.html [gamestop.com]
  2. When check out, don't forget to apply the $5 PUR rewards
  3. Redeem code from email here https://redeem.microsoft.com [microsoft.com]
Worked for me just now. I'll gladly pay $2 more to not have to go to GameStop.

I was able to purchase a $5 nintendo code on the receipt this weekend.

Funny that they have a paper right on the counter where the register is telling you the benefits of the pro program.
It says $5 off digital currencies
Hopefully they don't get rid of the deal starting February.

Just purchased a $5 Xbox card with this months $5pur. However the cashier could not run it as normal, so he just put promo not found? Does this mean I still have my $5 pur? Still shows on my account for Jan?

You wouldn't happen to know the SKU or PLU or whatever they use to search? The guy flipped his screen to me and $5 was clearly not among the choices. They started at $10 from what he showed me
