If you're a fan of masters of orion or civilization, you'll likely love it. Tech trees, economy development, combat (with ship design if you care). They did a good job with the add-ons to build out diplomacy a bit more too. It's not as complicated (as someone else mentioned) as some of the other 4x games but it's deep enough to have lots of different approaches. This, for me, is my couple hundred hour go-to when I'm debating to learn a new game I've not played before but don't feel the energy.
