There are many threads on here about this model, I asked the same question in one of them and basically the answer is that they rushed this model to the market so quickly, that not just HDMI 2.1 was messed up, but overall a small million things are popping up, which lead me to conclude that this is okay for a powerful 2 channel stereo listening party - but if you get into technical Home Theater based complicated connections - you are likely to encounter problems, hours of time trying to figure them out will be lost.... So if you value your own personal time...

There is an overall agreement that this is an unreliable, rushed model. Definitely not for complicated audio-video home theater setups and gaming, but good for just music listening.

They fixed it. You can tell if your unit has the fix because the firmware will have a * by it on the display. If not, you can send it in for a repair/board swap. I sent mine in last month and they had it fixed in 24 hours. Took about two weeks total with transit time (I'm in WNY, had to send it via UPS to a place in Utah). It was super easy once I submitted my repair request. They send the label and tell you exactly what to do. I'm able to get 4k@120 and 8k@60 now (though no way to test the latter). My Series X had no problems detecting everything once I configured all the things.
They claim to have an update program but they will refuse to update the TSR-700 stating it already has the updated board despite being over a year old and the firmware display not showing the asterisk. I would not buy one if that update is important. I saved my box and will be returning it as soon as Costco has something better in stock.

He probably did. Costco often had it discounted from their usual $400 price, including to $330.

$330 was when they first realized these were defective, Costco has never carried these again after getting rid of their existing inventory.

It was reported on here that Yamaha said they will not replace or repair these unless they were purchased from specific stores, and neither woot nor eBay is one of them.

Whoever says otherwise should post a link as source.

I bought one from Costco.com two weeks ago for $440. I tried the Onkyo tx-nr595, Sony dh790, and Denon 760h. This sounded best to my ears.

There is a web interface on the AVR that makes setting certain things much easier than through the receiver's on screen GUI. You can access it at http://receiver_ip/setup. All of the settings are laid out so it can appear a bit daunting but once you get used to it, there are advantages over the HDMI based GUI.

Aside from these models in Woot's listing being refurbished, the TSR-700 and RX-V6A are identical products. The former being a model name exclusive to Costco.
I thought that too till i saw the rx-v6a fire sale on dell's website. Wait nevermind you said former, oops

Thank you, I had no idea this (the repair process) was a thing. It'd be kind of annoying not to have a AVR for a couple of weeks, but maybe I should do it too. I don't have an Xbox X and I don't plan on getting one anytime soon though. Do you know if this was an issue with PS5 as well? I'm much more likely to get that, I think.
AFAIK, only XSX and certain video cards were affected. PS5 should be fine without a fix. This seems to be confirmed by Yamaha themselves when they mention the repair is only necessary if you use either of the things I mentioned at 4k/120 or 8k/60. I think this has something to do with the compression used with the XSX, but I'm not sure I really understood the technical aspects entirely.

Thanks, great info. If I see a refurb for around $200.00 I'm all in. Been waiting for a good deal on a Yami to replace my Denon S920W.
I'm hoping Costco will offer it again.

Can someone explain to me why go to all the trouble of sending back the unit for a board replacement when you can just connect your console directly to the tv and let the receiver handle only the audio with HDMI eArc? what am I missing? I think it is even advantageous because you can use that hdmi input settings just for your console (game settings or whatever) and the receiver input with the movie settings.
