I use these not for mountain biking but for city riding with flat pedals.
Tread pattern on these sneakers is really awesome at gripping nubs on my pedals.

what the difference between this and just wearing normal sneakers/workout shoes when biking? Is it the flat surface area for the nubs to dig into?
I'm no expert, but one main difference is the sole is much stiffer...that's what she said

Sad I cant use these on open plains with grassy fields, only mountains and I cant use it on a pogo stick while hunting narwhals in the sand dunes of the United Arab Emirates, instead only being able to wear them on a mountain, while riding a bike.

sigh
Odd post.. you feeling ok?

These are legit and all I wear riding now if I'm on the trails. Nice and super grippy. Definitely something you'd want to keep to wearing only while on the bike though.

Takes a few rides to break and then they're really sweet. Thumbs up on a nice bike gear deal. Thanks OP!

If you're trying to get to the free shipping amount Sierra has gloves, jerseys, etc.. whatever your thing is add something in. Treat yourself! 🚴

Oh and PS... ride flats.

Flat and hard soles with sticky rubber. With good flats those shoes are a game changer for mountain biking

Random question, but can these double as skateboard shoes? Or can you use traditional Vans skate shoes (think durable waffle sole) for mountain biking? I'm attempting to get back into both, with more emphasis/time on the bike.

They're intended to be tanwall compatible, which is important because more incompatible industry standards makes you .09% faster and 33.3% stiffer.

I haven't tried this particular model but I have used various MTB shoes. The soles are probably more grippy on pedals and probably less flexy than a skateboard shoes. I tend to ride more beefy MTB shoes like the fiveten freeriders. I actually tried skateboarding with freeriders and I don't recommend it at all, plenty of grip but not nearly enough feel. I think most of this stuff is entirely up to personal preference and what and how you ride.

damn that's a great price, too bad I bought a pair of sleuth dlx late last year already. these hardly go on sale and aren't to be confused with the regular sleuth which is definitely not as good of a shoe

You could but I wouldn't. skate shoes are cheap and should wear down quickly from stuff like dragging your foot and wearing down the upper. You can find cheap skate shoes at places like tillys online on clearance. i got my vans og in a non ugly color for $26 shipped. mtb shoes have proprietary soles and it's a much less discounted shoe category so don't waste your shoes on skating. that's assuming you do a good amount of skating and mtb and you wear down your stuff, otherwise yeah sure you can just get one pair of shoes to do both. vans can work for mtb too.

These look like skate shoes from the late 90's to early 2000's. LOL
