I love Hue and the color changing is cool for these but not sure how much I'd use it for overhead lights. I have some light strips and regular bulbs, but this would cost me a ton to change the dozens of recessed lights in my house!
I installed Lutron Caseta dimmer switches all over my house instead and they're awesome! They work without wireless and I have them all synced up to routines with the rest of my smart home.
Yeah for someone that doesn't use the color changing features, of course these are outrageously expensive. But for anyone that does use those features and wants to do it in a reliable way, Hue is completely worth the money. For me, being able to have the color temp adjust itself automatically throughout my entire house based on time of day is worth it. Let alone all the other options.
That and I like how they all seamlessly can work with the music/movie mode, via Hue Play. I like the wow factor when I invite friends over. So far for many years, this system has never failed me.
I just don't get the whole "hue" thing? Regular led trims with switchable color temp at Home Depot are $26 per 4-pack, is this really worth 7 times the price? I get it, you can switch colors on the fly but I never found myself wanting to have anything other than soft white (3000k). Even my accent lights that have remotes for switching temps and colors never get changed. To each his own I guess.
*Not knocking down the deal, seems like good find for those who can justify the price.
For most of us who are invested in the hue ecosystem - it is the integration and convenience game.. on top of that it is also about the brand, we all know philips and hue are not going anywhere in near future and develop safe and secure products… unlike a few offshore companies which just vanish in thin air
I honestly doubt - I was tracking them down like crazy for last about a year… this is best of the best price for a product which is in such high demand..

Fair enough, very good point. I invested into Kasa line which does everything that I need and is a solid brand. Again, I'm not saying it's not good or anything like that, just trying to understand what's it's all about. Every hue deal is extremely popular and I'm willing to switch at some point. May be I'll get something cheaper (like a single bulb or tape light) just to try it out.
Thank you everyone for replies, extremely helpful.

I think mostly novelty. The only exception I can think of is using red light in the evening to promote more/better/faster sleep, there is some evidence it seems to help some people.
Definitely not for me, I need complete darkness and quietness to sleep. Good point though.
I have seen other cheaper lights that are smart and use color changing. What is it about this that would be better than other lights that connect to SmartThings?

Agreed - I started of with one light and to a point where every single bulb and light that I have is a hue… every single third party (known brand) will have a integration interface with philips… There are so many third party apps and developers and lastly the warranty and support is just phenomenal and to top all of that the current deal is with Costco so you get lifelong return protection if you are costco member…. Try it out, you may like it

I paid 55 and tax for each few months back.
This makes it 45 and tax for each unit
