I drove 40+ miles to get this set. There were supposed to be 6 in stock, but...
So, I bought this set instead: Kobalt 3839313 [lowes.com]
135 Pieces, 1/4" and 3/8" for $34.97
Looks like left-over Christmas stock.

Anyone have experiences with 5/8 deep socket? Will it work for replacing spark plugs or do I need extra deep socket for my VW?

Should work. You will be better served with an actual spark plug socket with the rubber retainer inside it. The rubber holds plugs very well while removing or installing.
