Go buy a piece off wood for $5 and skate on it.
Can a 45 year old learn how to ride these? Cheaper midlife crisis then getting a sports car.
The recommendation for us old fogies is to get a "double drop" longboard. Longboard because it's more stable and great for cruising (and we're never going to do any tricks). Double-drop because it's closer to the ground and easier on our knees.

My kids and I are learning skateboarding together and it's been great so far. I do suggest plenty of safety gear, including padded shorts! Hip and tail injuries at our age are not pleasant.

This is the board I bought:

Apples-to-oranges when compared to the nice deal in this thread.

Very nice board for the price, as expected though wheels/bearings are poor. Replace those and it's solid.

It includes labor to make it look the way it is.

Great reviews on Amazon

For those that don't know - Longboard's are for cruising. They are a lot of fun and more stable than a regular skateboard. your weight is spread out more.

Claims weight capacity is 275 lbs so I'd say some adults at least.

Not sure I'd ride a longboard at 275 lbs though.

If you want an even cheaper board, not sure differences otherwise. Available same price many other stores.

Never had luck with budget boards. If you or whomever you're buying for really gets use out of one, probably best to chalk up ~$120 or so to a surf/skate shop for decent board.

I can and it handles very well doing 25-35mph, trucks/bushings are average. It's my spare board for long distance trails, went over kill throwing my other set of Orangatang In Heat 75mm 80a wheels and Bone Swiss bearings on it. It flies and soaks up everything cruising.
