They must have realized they messed up jacking up the price to $90 was to cover their behinds.
Don't use pliers on the nut and instead use a 10mm socket?
Also, I thought about it since then, and I'm going to line the inside of my socket or the nut with duct tape or masking tape (depending on amount of gap), and put some tape at bottom on the headstock, so when I turn the socket there is no friction directly on the headstock. All this taping takes 1-3 min.

I've changed dozens of tuners with a socket and never had any damage to the nut, washer or headstock. You're just turning it a step past hand tight.

I'm a jerk for answering a dumb question? I saw your question went unanswered so I answered it. I can't help it if you don't like the answer. Do you realize how many people are out there that would use pliers or an adjustable wrench because they don't have a socket set?
I literally put a set of these on yesterday (my first time)with a 10mm socket and guess what? No scratches.
If I wanted to make you look like an idiot I would have said something like a 6 yr old can put these on without scratches, wyd?
