What's the concern? I got the 3/8" recently and it's busted all the lug nuts I tried it on. It's been reviewed in YT tests and breaks nuts all the way up to 450ft-lbs. There are no fasteners on typical cars requiring anywhere near that much torque. Lots of serious DIYers and actual pros swear by it for day to day work.

If you don't do much auto work then an impact wrench is probably unnecessary for you. Although if you rotate your tires regularly on several cars it beats using lug wrenches, and might be nice to throw in the trunk for a flat tire change. And each size has identical power output. Which one you get is mostly a matter of what impact socket set you have or get and how you intend to use it. I got the 3/8" as 3/8" sockets are a bit smaller than 1/2" ones and fit into tighter spaces.

Only one is an impact driver. The other is an impact wrench, with a much higher torque rating for tougher fasteners such as are found on cars. If you only get one power tool for auto work, it should probably be an impact wrench, and many swear by the 3/8" M12 for being both powerful and versatile. It'll handle 80-90% of auto fasteners, and possibly even all of them on smaller cars. Drills and drivers are more for home, construction and wood work. So this is a nice all-around set. Lots of serious auto DIYers like to also get a power ratchet, but in addition to and not instead of an impact wrench.

The impact wrench itself is normally $179 so you're basically getting the drill, driver, batteries, charger & case for $100, which is a deal. I already have the wrench, 3 & 6Ah batteries, charger & case from a different deal and this isn't hackable, so I have to pass. Eventually they'll hopefully run their hackable deal on the drill and driver for around $100 after the hack. Also on some of their other M12 tools. I can wait but perhaps this indicates that another round of deals is coming. Or new tools are coming out soon?

Seems like a very good deal. Especially if you aren't already in the Milwaukee M12 ecosystem. Thumbs up.

There's at least one other deal based on the drill and driver kit that includes the M12 cutoff tool instead of the impact wrench, for $259:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../313167268

Yet other M12 deals:

I wish there was one that included the right angle die grinder, but alas. These appear to be mostly construction/woodworking tool deals. I guess the ones for auto work don't make as much sense this time of year. Maybe in a few months.

What do you mean by hackable? I am new to SlickDeals and am not all up on the lingo.

I have a few M18 tools and got into the M12 game with a multi tool with a 4 ah battery. I would love a kit like this with 3 ah and 6 ah batteries!

You'll find some more detailed walkthroughs in other threads but basically HD runs specials where you get a free tool when purchasing a specific battery or battery/tool pack. What you can do is have one item shipped to home and the other collect in store. Cancel the part you don't want and the other still gets the discount. Long running 'hack' and fairly consistent multiple times a year on various items.

"Hackable" with Home Depot tool bundles means the ability to only get the specific tool(s) you need from a bundle and return/not pick up the others so that you only pay for the tools you need.
Example: a $150 power tool bundle (with multiple separate skus) with a drill, driver, and saw. You only need the driver and saw, so you get them shipped to you, then send the drill elsewhere and don't pick it up, or return it for ~$50 back. Means you still only pay the bundle $50/tool instead of like $75 msrp for the tool alone. Adding in batteries and other accessories, some hack deals can get insane discounts.

I was debating between the m12 and the bosch 12v system, and I'm very happy with the m12 milwaukee choice. I almost never use my 18v drill or driver anymore, because the smaller brushless m12 works so well and the battery lasts quite a while. I ended up getting the small circular saw and the ratchet, and all are quality tools.

the m12 stubby is one of the best impact wrenches you can imagine, easily keeps up with with the ridgid 18v version. have taken lugs off with it.

I keep seeing deals on these stubbys but keep convincing myself not to get in since i barely do any auto work. Maybe oil changes if anything haha. This is really tempting with the other tools though, especially the hammer drill. Is the hammer drill pretty capable of drilling into concrete and tile (e.g. for installing stove anchors etc)? Also, whats the consensus on going with 3/8" vs 1/2" for impact wrenches?

i have a couple unopened m12 sets and several m18 tools now from all the recent black friday and christmas deals but its hard to resist more lol
