What's the concern? I got the 3/8" recently and it's busted all the lug nuts I tried it on. It's been reviewed in YT tests and breaks nuts all the way up to 450ft-lbs. There are no fasteners on typical cars requiring anywhere near that much torque. Lots of serious DIYers and actual pros swear by it for day to day work.

If you don't do much auto work then an impact wrench is probably unnecessary for you. Although if you rotate your tires regularly on several cars it beats using lug wrenches, and might be nice to throw in the trunk for a flat tire change. And each size has identical power output. Which one you get is mostly a matter of what impact socket set you have or get and how you intend to use it. I got the 3/8" as 3/8" sockets are a bit smaller than 1/2" ones and fit into tighter spaces.

Only one is an impact driver. The other is an impact wrench, with a much higher torque rating for tougher fasteners such as are found on cars. If you only get one power tool for auto work, it should probably be an impact wrench, and many swear by the 3/8" M12 for being both powerful and versatile. It'll handle 80-90% of auto fasteners, and possibly even all of them on smaller cars. Drills and drivers are more for home, construction and wood work. So this is a nice all-around set. Lots of serious auto DIYers like to also get a power ratchet, but in addition to and not instead of an impact wrench.

The impact wrench itself is normally $179 so you're basically getting the drill, driver, batteries, charger & case for $100, which is a deal. I already have the wrench, 3 & 6Ah batteries, charger & case from a different deal and this isn't hackable, so I have to pass. Eventually they'll hopefully run their hackable deal on the drill and driver for around $100 after the hack. Also on some of their other M12 tools. I can wait but perhaps this indicates that another round of deals is coming. Or new tools are coming out soon?

Seems like a very good deal. Especially if you aren't already in the Milwaukee M12 ecosystem. Thumbs up.

Question, besides the price, what is the benefits/cons of going for the 18v vs the 12v?

I am a DIY auto mechanic with no power tools. I keep eyeing these deals and am tempted but it seems a cordless ratchet would be more useful than 2 impact drivers. Am I missing something from folks that have used these?

the m12 stubby is one of the best impact wrenches you can imagine, easily keeps up with with the ridgid 18v version. have taken lugs off with it.

Any experience with the new 34v HPT?

Torque has never been an issue with me . . . my luck has always been the previous guy had enough torque and not clean enough bits/hold on the drill.

12v is typically smaller / more compact, so they fit in tighter spaces.

I keep seeing deals on these stubbys but keep convincing myself not to get in since i barely do any auto work. Maybe oil changes if anything haha. This is really tempting with the other tools though, especially the hammer drill. Is the hammer drill pretty capable of drilling into concrete and tile (e.g. for installing stove anchors etc)? Also, whats the consensus on going with 3/8" vs 1/2" for impact wrenches?

i have a couple unopened m12 sets and several m18 tools now from all the recent black friday and christmas deals but its hard to resist more lol

I personally use the stubby more than the M12 ratchet. I have the stronger v2 version of the ratchet and although it can save you time, it's still a bit big and heavy but not strong enough to break 30+ ft-lb bolts. The stubby, though even bigger and more specific, has saved me in spots where even a breaker bar couldn't fix. The sudden impact from the tool really gets tight nuts and bolts off best. That plus super easy lug nut removal makes me smile every time I use it. Well worth it even at $200 by itself. This bundle is a fantastic deal!

I'm curious, has anyone tried to return either the base kit or extra tool on this and similar deals, as with hackable deals, and did it work?

Alternately, have folks been able to keep the tools they needed and sell the others?

Since I have 1/2" long 6pt sockets, should I invest in the 3/8" stubby with short 6pt sockets or try to stay with all 1/2"? I missed the BF deal for the 1/2" impact.

Absolutely. There's a separate drill/hammer setting.

Depends on what you mean by "as expected". I've used it to drill into brick and concrete cinder blocks using the 2 ah battery.

This is a *great* price for this kit if you're after the 3/8 stubby.

Already have the impact driver, but definitely want a Stubby impact wrench and would certainly use the Hammer Drill. Still on the fence as to whether I want the 3/8 or 1/2 Stubby. Regardless, I have enough chargers and batteries, so will likely pass on this set, but this is a killer deal!
