If I only had a week to live, I would watch Solaris every day because it would feel like an eternity.

Solaris is such a great movie. It deals with the same concepts like Matrix and Interstellar do but Tarkovsky did it better than they did and he did it back in 1972.

Yeah, and Soderberh's "remake" of it is just ridiculous.

Jeez, I still feel repulsed just thinking about that movie. It sure does give Cronenberg a run for his money...

I've never had a use for the Apple ecosystem (Android phone/Firestick TV/Google products) but their free 4k upgrade on movies has always tempted me to dive - not sure why no one else does that.

With that said - do these upgrade to 4k? It looks like no. Is that a function of the movies themselves, or an Apple thing?

I love Criterion...although buying them on digital somehow feels less fun or noteworthy.

Oxford comma would be appropriate in the post title since it's three movies, not two

Anyone know if these are free to watch on a streaming platform?
Not usually into older movies but those are some good ratings!

All 3 are currently on HBO Max. All 3 are also on the subscription service The Criterion Channel.

Side note: the title of this thread on the SD frontpage is confusing, in describing these as "Criterion Collection Films (Digital HD): Eraserhead, Wild Strawberries & Solaris."

This appears to be a sale on some films that happen also to be in the Criterion Collection. But as best I can tell the digital versions do not come with all the extras (director interviews, film critic monologues, etc.) that are part of buying the Criterion Collection edition of a film.

My father shared this gem with my brother and I when we were about 10 and 13... scarred me for life.

I'm surely in the minority but, George Clooney Solaris is my favorite; that Cliff Martinez OST is exquisite.
