These are incredible shoes for their intended purpose. I put a couple hundred miles on mine backpacking last year. However, buyers should be aware that their intended purpose is trail running on dirt trails. The rubber on the soles is very soft and if used for walking or running on hard surfaces they will wear out very quickly.

The manufacturer describes them as a "trail runner". They make a separate models with names like "LONE PEAK HIKER" and "LONE PEAK ALL-WTHR MID" that are actual hiking shoes, but the shoes in this thread are designed as trail running shoes.

Excellent first post on this thread. Thank you. I don't hike as much as I used to.

I echo most of your thoughts, these shoes are amazing. I am still surprised by the longevity if these shoes. I wear them every day and walk in asphalt, concrete, etc and despite being warned about the lugs wearing off the wear has been almost non existent.
I have plantar fasciitis and bought these shoes as a way to transition back to barefoot due to the zero rise and great padding so wear them constantly. They worked very well for this use case in conjunction with the orange superfeet inserts
Lone Peak 6 just came out. That's why the price for the 5 dropped.
True, but the only difference between the 5 and 6 is some fairly minor tweaks to the upper. A couple extra lace holes and some minor adjustments to materials design.

I was going to say the same thing. I was afraid these would wear out very quickly but I have been pleasantly surprised at how these guys are holding up as a daily wear shoe. They definitely arent the best for rain/snow/wind (due to them being well vented all around) but they are sooooooo comfortable. I wear a size 16 so finding shoes my size that are comfortable is extremely difficult ... I can easily say these are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.
Side Note on a related model ... on the I did find out that the Altra Lone Peak All-Wthr models (not the ones in this thread I know) fit completely differently and are much tighter both in width and length to the point that I have to send them back.

He means that using these on the street/pavement will result in faster wear rather than using them for their intended purpose which is trails.

My typical shoe size is 9.5 and this model 9.5 fit my feet comfortably.
In summary:
True to size in length
Slightly wider on regular size, but not wider than dedicated wide variants.
