I bought this last time the deal came around, and my saw arrived in a large box with no protection whatsoever. I was on a trip at the time and the box sat outside for a few days and got rained on. Even so, once I let the saw dry out for a couple of days I had a look and it was in very good condition, with only a couple of scratches on the aluminum table surface.

I looked up a couple of Youtube videos on how to calibrate a miter saw, bought a carpenter square on amazon for $8, and checked on the blade alignment. I found the miter 0 degree angle was perfect, but the bevel was a bit off. Thankfully they make both the miter angle and bevel angle easily adjusted, so after a few iterations of adjusting and checking I was able to get my saw nice and square.

Here's the video I ended up using to check the fence-to-blade alignment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB-QJ1B6toY

Although it did take a bit of extra work to get the saw set up, I think it was an excellent deal and I've already used it to build the Ana White garage shelves and used the sliding feature to cut a 10" wide shelf to length for the laundry room. The LED blade shadow feature is really cool, and I found it to be accurate. I will say the dust extraction port is pretty much useless, so you may want to do your cutting outside to avoid getting sawdust everywhere, as it ejects a lot of dust at high speed. I haven't tried cutting any bevels or non-90 degree angles yet, so I don't yet know how accurate the detents are.
Was $78 last week. Almost all the reviews I could find were that it is poorly packaged when shipped leading to misaligned blades which is a no-go for me. If you have a store near you, its worth checking out in person but delivery is a problem with these "factory reconditioned" items. Note, this is not "factory blemished" which is almost always brand new.
Not a bad saw, got one last time and it was thrown into a box and shipped without any packing material.
It survived ok, guess it is a well built saw.

Good for what it is, I owned one and upgraded to a 12" dewalt sliding miter saw. There was too much play and flexibility in the ryobi and it was hard to get consistent 45% cuts for framing.

Bought this last time it was this price. Arrived in an extra large cardboard box, on its side, in the driveway, with no packaging whatsoever. Somehow it was still in near perfect condition (one small scratch). Works great, and I'm very happy about it. This poor shipping seems pretty common from what I've read, but often product is alright. I'd read into the warranty and return policy before buying. Great deal if it turns out well for you. Good luck!

I bought this last time, reconditioned. As others have mentioned, it was just thrown in a big box without any protective packaging. However, it fit fairly securely in the box; very little wiggle room. I don't see how the way it was packaged & shipped would cause misaligned blades. It's possible of course, but I suspect the misalignment is just inherent to this low cost harry homeowner model, because reviews for brand new ones mention how the angle stops (e.g., 45 degree) as well as the 90 degree aren't exact. But for most homeowner projects the minor imprecision isn't something to fret over. You can work around it.

Mine was shipped with lots of packing materials. Actually the packing materials doubled the whole weight.

The saw works well, but it is pretty long with sliding rods behind. Not a good option in garage.

I bought the smaller version and was worried about the packaging after reading some of the reviews here. It was thrown in the box but did have some shredded cardboard and some padding in there with it. Turned out OK for me. Other than it being cheaper now ...
