Samyang's new 24-70mm F2.8 AF (Sony E Mount) lens is available through their site for $999.99 with a 10% discount code "OFF10" (noted on site's top banner).

Sale also did not include sales tax for me so it was $899.10 with free shipping.

Went with this lens over the Sigma due to not wanting to gamble with the dust issue.

This is a Pre-order, will ship when available. There are very few reviews but this one is quite in-depth:

Heard of Sigma but not Samyang. Are they reputable?

It's a Korean company that tries to strike a good balance between quality and price. Also sold as "Rokinon" and "Bower" in some markets.

I have a Sony-mount Rokinon 85mm 1.2 SP manual focus lens (their "professional" line) and it's absolutely amazing. At about the third of the price of the similar Sony/Nikon/Canon lenses.

I also have their 18mm 2.8 and it's very, very good.

I'm tempted, but I really like my Tamron 28-70mm 2.8. This one is about twice the weight, is it worth it for the 4mm on the wide end and parfocal zooming? Don't know, gotta think about it.

BTW OP, nice find. Please mention in your post that it's for preorder only.

This is really interesting to me. I'm looking to see how this stacks up against the Sigma 24-70... and it looks very very competitive.

Yes thanks for noting that, I have edited the post!

I went with this over the Tamron for the extra 4mm and all metal construction. I agree though it is heavy (heavier than the Sigma 24-70 2.8) but I just keep reading about people who are either at the correct serial number or send it in for repair and it still has the dust issue.

Huh, didn't realize Samyang is now making non-primes. Honestly, I'd wait for a reputable reviewer such as Dustin Abbott to review this first. Lenses aren't something to be buying blindly.

Looks like this is their first zoom. From seeing a lot of use on Youtube, it actually seems pretty great. I've got a few Samyang/Rokinon primes and those are some amazingly good products too. This looks to hit a really nice mark for me as I have the Zeiss 24-70 f4.0 so this would nice to use on my FS5 while I have the Zeiss on my A7 IV or A7C

Prime lenses have a fixed focal length and cannot zoom in or out. They are usually cheaper, lighter, and more compact than a zoom lens.

Non-prime or zoom lenses have variable focal length so you can zoom in and out. They are more versatile and can be more convenient than bringing multiple prime lenses around.

Love Samyang lenses but not at this price point. Much rather have the Tamron 28-75 or sigma 24-70 for basically the same price

Yes, I have owned a bunch of Samyangs for Nikon and Sony E in the past, and currently own three (45mm 1.8, 35mm 1.4, 18mm 2.8). I have been happy with their lenses as they offer great value, but $1k msrp is a bit much for this imho. A $650-700 MSRP would have made it an easier choice, and even then, it would be hard to pick this over the Tamron when it goes on sale.

The Simga recently hit FP at $899 new and it is notorious for dust issues, even after sending in for repairs. I am hopeful that this will be on par with the Sigma once reviews start going out.

The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 is also $899.99 msrp vs this $999.99 msrp. Tamron is all plastic construction and not as wide at 28mm.

Plenty of Samyang/Rokinon glass has been highly rated.

I agree w/ others, I'm glad Samyang is getting into the AF zoom lens market, but they've always been a bit heavy and basic. Likely not going to have any innovative features and so-so AF speed. Maybe at $700ish I'd consider, but not at this price.
