It's possible, just recently I've been looking for something cheap and all I saw was $30 options, a lot of bike stuff has been limited, figures since I fell in love with bike riding this new year.
You'll feel especially foolish when you come back and see that someone cut your lock off with a pair of scissors or garden shears.
These are toys. Treat them as such.
For $5.00 I'll give it a try, I'm only using it at the community beach bike rack station, nothing fancy. I just don't want to keep leaving it with no lock anymore.

Look at the video in the review. Looks like it can break easily
Get a 13mm thick U-Lock, and a ordinary $400 ($200-300 on sale) bike and you can park it most places.
What you don't want to do is leave a bike unattended for even '15 seconds' One of the main type of theives looks for that. They will wait till you walk through door, and hop on your bike and take off. Even if you are at door and turn around they are already 25 feet away on a bike and you are on foot.
What you don't want to do is buy a bike worth more than $700 retail, and leave it anywhere with a Ulock.
What you don't want to do is lock any bike except maybe a complete piece of crap cable lock like this deal. So easy to cut with a small tool.
You don't really have to worry about people picking locks key or combo if you have an ordinary ($400 retail) value bike. If they are goign semi-pro with a cordless grinder, or picking locks they aren't going to settle on a $400 used bike. There's more gold in those hills for same risk level.
I'm a rarer bike enthusist. I have many bikes I've paid $200-400 for. They never get stolen. The $400 ones are cheap ebikes.
Doesn't stop me from wearing $350 earbuds, wearing nice clean clothes, and carry a $800 phone.
Get this one, put it on your $400 bike and park whereever you want prettymuch.
13mm is just thick enough to be a pain in the ass for those trying to cut it, and 9.5" long means you can lock it almost anywhere. Combo so you don't have to keep track of key and cant lose it).

If you have a $1000+ bike don't bother parking anywhere unattended more than 1 min if using this ulock.
