Obviously anyone looking for this - check in with the 8oz (non 25% free) bottles - may be mixed in.
Always good to check end caps, over by the pro desk, etc for special displays too, obviously this was a promotion, most likely for black friday/xmas, so there was probably a special display for it. May be in one of the clearance sections too.
Overhead area, and someone mentioned near the moldings area too. It's always a hunt for Lowe's clearance stuff. Of course if you don't need a bunch of it, may not be worth the effort to search around to save a couple bucks on one or two bottles.

But I was able to buy 2 for the deal price and return the one I bought before

It looks like brick seek is showing the combined stock number for both the regular and the "25% more free" versions.
But only the "25% more free" rings up to the deal price. They do have different SKU numbers

Even if it did work, who knows how good the glue would be - you'll never see a mason add water to mortar when it starts to dry out - it will never be as strong as fresh stuff.
For those that don't use it much these small bottles are ideal - shake them occasionally and they should be fine well past the 2 year shelf life if kept inside. Once you crack the seal they start degrading.
I've got a larger bottle of III that I keep in the basement that doesn't get used much. It's gotta be 4 or 5 years old at this point. Still works fine, just used some yesterday. I shake it every so often when I walk by and think of it, and when I do use it, I close it immediately after use. As long as glue flows, it is still good, if it starts to get too thick or separates, throw it out, not worth pinching pennies on something like that.

Mine lasted less than 4 years and I made sure to keep the lid on it and that it was sealed well. Maybe you are on to something with the shaking.
Titebond III is great, but it goes bad fast! I made the mistake of buying several gallons at $20 each, but they all went bad within the year. Lumpy, and smelled like death.
Check the date code on your bottle before you buy. 😉
