Was at my local Home Depot today and saw this Honda lawnmower on clearance. Decided to post it here because I almost never see Honda lawnmowers on sale or clearance. Regular price is $700 and it was in clearance for $524. They had a few here at home depot largo, FL.

I have a 21 year old B&S based 6.75 HP Craftsman. It fires up on the 3rd pull every time including right after winter. I have never changed oil on it. Changed the plug ONCE. I do add oil and it does leak a bit on the deck but the engine just won't quit.

I did buy the HRR216 the other year late 2019 on clearance but haven't opened it. I keep using the working one I have. I even tried to give it away for FREE this year and no takers. I will open the Honda this coming spring but I have been very happy with that Craftsman. The deck is rusting but not that bad. If I wash it and clean up the oil leak it still looks brand new.
You're pushing the limits of low maintenance never changing the oil in 21 years. The Honda engines might be overkill for a home user, but they will generally have fewer problems and are made to last longer than the Briggs engines.

Honda mowers have crap tires. Have had to replace mine every year. Apparently they use some type of synthetic material instead of rubber.
What happens to your tires that they become unusable after a year?

I thought $800 for an HRC commercial was crazy 20yrs ago but it's still going. Good investment, paid for itself the first mowing season. I'm going part time with Ego on smaller lawns, a lot less upkeep.

This is an odd complaint. Maybe you're talking about a different model. These don't even have tires. You'd have to replace the whole wheel. I have one of these that's 4 years old, and my dad's is at least 16 years old and neither has needed new wheels. They still self propel just fine.

While everyone going gaga over a Honda lawnmower, I have a 13 year old self propelled MTD mower with B&S engine that is working flawlessly over so many years. All I do is yearly air filter and engine oil change. You don't need have to spend a lot of money for a decent reliable mower.
For me it is because my Honda HRX is the best mulcher I've ever seen. I have a dark green lawn that grows quite fast and it doesn't leave clippings behind on full mulch as long as I mow once per week.

If you bag anyway it probably doesn't matter much.

Def want a Honda mower at some point, but my Sears mower that I bought new with the much missed SYWR points and $50 cash has been running strong for 6.5 years and I beat the crap out of it and have prob never changed the oil.

Highly suggest putting out more money and going to an authorized dealer. The versions at the big box stores have cheaper parts, engines, decks, etc.

You get what you pay for.

Was able to replicate. My store had them clearance but for 679. Took like 15 min to get someone to answer at OP's store to verify price and the store I was at was able to price match.
Wow that's nice that they called OPs store and matched. Is that common practice? I've never tried. But around here it's like pulling teeth to get them to honor their own online price

I bought a used self propelled yardman in 2011 for $125 and changed oil only once.. I did replace the belt and blade this year.. since the self propeller wasn't pulling easily since last year.. Starts on 2nd or 3rd pull.. no issues whatsoever. Don't know how much better you will get for $700.. maybe quieter and my re powerful.. but you can buy a cheaper brand and it would do the same thing..

Mine is an HRR216VKA. The wheels / tires are like you described, combined into single unit. The rear tires are bald at the end of almost every mowing season. Apparently not that uncommon based on the Amazon comments where I usually get replacements.

I bought this mower recently for $150, a year old, barely used. Had to clean the carb but 20 minutes and it purrs. Hoping it holds up. Tough to justify $500+ on a self propelled mower

I'll have to look at my dad's next time I'm there and see how bald they are. Mine seem fine. I have Kentucky bluegrass. Do you have something more abrasive like Saint Augustine?
