Some nostalgia is there but overall the game is so different it feels like a sequel made by a different studio as opposed to a rerelease or homage. Not bad but I'd prefer the original with updated graphics....heck, or the original game with original graphics.

I will throw my two cents in, I found it to be pretty faithful to the original. Gameplay is mostly the same, the types of earthlings are only slightly expanded from the original, and the mechanics/world perspective are roughly the same. I loved the original as a kid, and this one was really enjoyable.

the original Toejam and Earl and the sequel Toejam and Earl: Panic on Funkotron are also available for the switch as part of the Sega Genesis Classics Collection. The original was a great game. I highly recommend it. Back in the Groove is a good successor.
