I bought a 256gb refurb from Walmart for $699 a while back. Box was plastic wrapped, but opening you can tell it had been used since it didn't have the original plastic on the iPad. It was in mint condition and was only used for a week at that point and could still be registered for AppleCare+. It's a decent deal to save some $ if you want it and you can return for whatever reason.
Seems good: if level of referb is on par w/Apple including quality/warranty, then really good.
New ones $1100, via edu - $1000, refurbs might be cheaper but not available, so all's good. If not - always easy returns.
TY for the post!
ps: right, one of the reviews mentioned getting the one like new sealed with all accessories and all. It's through Walmart after all, if not, then again, to the point above - easy returns. Just make sure within 30 days.
Would think $150 is worth for the M1 + miniLED display for the latest model.
Yeah, that's weird - says 5th gen (which is 2021/M1) but the description lists the A12 first in bold, then the M1 in the main body text. Looks like a goof on the description intro.
FWIW, I got two refurb iPad Airs in December @ 399 each and, with the exception of the peel plastic and one scuffed box, the units were indistinguishable from new. Both had warranty start dates within 6 weeks of my purchase. Worst case, if it comes in and is compromised you can just take it back to the store for a refund.

These are not refurbs but retail returns. This deal has been online since last week. I order the 256GB last week and received this week. Other than somewhat worn looking box and missing the plastic bag / cover around the iPad, everything works like new. It came with a sticker just on the outside box that said "Tested fully functional." Doesn't look new / refurb but item is in perfect condition.
Ok if it is indeed 5th gen you save $150 so I see where buying a bunch in bulk for say a charity foundation this would make sense but like I prefer new myself and I promise you that $150 gap is only going to get smaller. Remember this size also has the upgraded mini-LED screen. I don't see 1TB but those flavors have 16gb ram! It's a beast of a machine

Glad I got mine before they changed the pricing. The 256GB was $699 for refurbished, and mine came factory sealed.
Your what? 12.9" Pro with the M1, XDR, 2D backlighting system with 2596 full‑array local dimming zones
Maximum overall 1000 nits (peak 1600 nits for HDR content) 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio mini-LED screen? Doubt
You're talking about something else

They came in and out of stock for a good month. The thread was relegated to the Deal Talk forum so not many people saw it.
