Great deal. I own these and the DT880 600 ohms. These are great for just about any kind of music and are way, way better than their open backed models if you want to listen around other people or have any kind of thump to your bass.

I'm new to cans but have bought a few of the last deals. How do I know if something like these require an external amp vs what can be driven by my phone?

I have the 80 ohm version, which can be driven reasonably well by most phones, but barely. 250 Ohms is too much for a phone to handle without a headphone amp. They're very popular in studio environments.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's time to start researching amps.

something like a 50 ohms is fine on a laptop or a mobile device. 250+ ohms WILL require an amp for optimal sound.

I went ahead and ordered these as well as a couple amps to try. Went with a Schiit Magni Heresy and Fiio EK10-TC to get an idea at an entry budget.

I'd imagine these amps will also benefit the other cans I have bought this week.

Getting these to replace my ATH-M50x. Hopefully they're going to be more comfortable for my large ears. Thanks OP

I personally think they have more bass then the m50x they make a decent gaming headset for this price with a decent amp.
