And for those of you who read the Clear description of themselves and still aren't sure WTF they are...they're an ID alternative at airports. A secondary, private, pay-to-play / fastpass line to get through the id and boarding pass check at the beginning of the TSA security line. [insider.com] The current value is that few people have it (like PreCheck used to be) that the lines are almost non-existent. Then you get folded into your PreCheck or Standard line for TSA screening after the ID podium.

If you fly a lot, if your preferred airport has Clear station(s), AND if your airport is busy but your Clear-member community is small (or you can get it for free via the Amex Plat deal), then it's worth it to bypass the ID portion of the TSA lines.

Is this a regular promotion or is there an expiration for the deal?

Unlike Global Entry and other expedited programs, there is no background check for CLEAR members. This is because by being a CLEAR member, you are not receiving any expedited or reduced screening.

The program is simply matching your eye and identity with your boarding pass so you don't have to present your ID to a TSA officer. From there, you're still assigned access to either the regular security lanes or TSA PreCheck (if you have that program).
Seems pricey for what it does and it's limited footprint.

I just use precheck but anything I can do to make the airport easier is a giant value in my book.

I'd agree if this was the case, but having to go to a specific terminal/gate (which may not be near the gate you depart from) at a multi-terminal airport in order to avoid pulling out ID doesn't seem efficient.

precheck and global entry (the latter includes the former) are still OK the majority of the time. Once in while you'll get a line but even then it's nothing compared to that particular day's standard line

And even in those locations Clear is not available in every terminal.

To be clear (no pun intended) because this will be asked - all Clear really does is get you to the head of whatever security line you "qualify" for. You don't bypass security. Clear is no TSA Pre, nor is it Global Entry.

After you're enrolled, you go to a kiosk for biometric ID verification, then a staffer (actual person) escorts you to the head of the regular or TSA Pre line. That's as much as Clear does.

Also, Clear is not in many airports. The large hubs, yes, but not much after that. Their stat that they have "50+ locations [clearme.com]" includes places like stadiums that also use their tech, "50+" is not just airports (my count is 13 of their 50+ are stadiums). Lastly, even the large hubs it won't exist in every terminal.

IMHO now that Precheck is normal (they stopped giving Precheck to people that had no idea what they were doing), the lines are not bad at all. I'm not saying Clear has no value, but just realize what you're paying for.

It's more useful if you don't have TSA Pre because you get to cut those lines. For TSA Pre, it's only useful because you don't have to take off your mask. Rarely does it actually result in a shorter wait, and in some cases, it takes longer.

Also you don't need to travel with ID if you have clear, which is nice.

If you have an AmEx Platinum, grab the discount from for United Mileage Plus non-elite members at $119 and you can add your spouse for an additional cost and the AmEx credit will cover both of you. I did this and was refunded the cost of both.
If it wasn't free I would never be able to justify the cost since Pre-Tsa is quick enough and available everywhere.
Keep in mind that Clear isn't at all airports and if it is it's not always at the terminal you are checking in at.

Just a point of clarification on the Amex credit. Amex will credit you up to $179 per card per year.
It won't give you back $179 if you only spent $50 for the membership.

So it makes sense to maximize the reimbursement by adding family members or friends

Is this a sing of this company finally going away. They're services are utterly pointless, not to mention they take up space from busy airports. I know some techie wants to keep their lifestyle extravagant but they need to come up with something useful first.
