Their lower end model of the same series was recently on sale and now they have the mid-range one at $650 from their original price of $899. This is the lowest this model has dropped for.
It's a great deal considering the specs.

I don't think you can upgrade the ram on this one. Man I hate that trend.

Yes, you certainly can not just like on many other laptops unfortunately.

Looks pretty good otherwise. Has the backlit keyboard that held me back on the previous deal. Decisions...

Yes, and it also has the fingerprint scanner which a buyer reported on the previous deal as missing.

Got my hopes up - I thought it was the Spin 5. I need something with a stylus.

Edit: oh damn, I just realized that this does have a stylus (Wacom aes). I just might bite...

Spin 5 is priced ridiculously tbh. Also, I don't think it was refreshed with the 11th Gen, if my memory serves right.

And yes this spin has a built in stylus, back lit keyboard, fingerprint scanner, and a very good selection of IOs. Only thing that could have been a cherry on top was a haptic track pad or a bit more RAM.

Agreed on the ram. And I think you're right that the spin 5 is still on the 10th gen Intel.

Do you happen to know the screen brightness on this? That's my only hangup. If it's 300 or more, I will order this now and return my surface pro 7+ lol.

I'm torn between the two exactly like you're right now, pro 7+ and this spin 3.

The brightness on this is certainly 300 Nits (306 nits being the average according to sources).
I'd have chosen pro 7+ (the Walmart deal) but it's only i3 and 128GB (as easier as it is, I don't want the hassle to go around finding a suitable SSD and then swapping it with the original). Another reason why I'm more inclined to this is that 7+ keyboard is an attachable one so it would have more flex than I'd prefer (even though I've never used their keyboards before).

Like others, felt the recent trend to eliminate the option to upgrade RAM on a laptop to be an instant disqualification. The same annoyance I feel about most Apple products where RAM / storage is ususally non-upgradeable so that Apple can rape consumers with obscene upcharges, thinking specifically about iPhone/iPad. Saying that, I believe what is really happening is a paradigm shift that is the result of the now almost univeral deployment of NVMe storage in new laptops/PC's. Traditionally, the primary reason for upgrading RAM was to eliminate / minimize the need to do memory swaps to a hard drive when running / starting multiple apps. I don't doubt there may be some scenarios (gaming?) where large amounts of RAM are necessary for top performance but for the vast majority of users who are running office apps or browsing the interenet, 8GB of RAM is probably more than sufficient. There may be some memory swaps occurring but today's NVMe drives make it all but transparent to the user.

I could be missing something but that's my two cents.

Very nicely and appropriately put. Couldn't have said it any better.
For the vast majority of people 8GB RAM would absolutely be enough considering the shift towards PCIe NVMe drives.

After a lot of contemplating, I've finally bit this deal and have ordered the laptop. IMO you can't get these specs at a better price than this.

I actually have the sp7+ with an i5 and 8GB from Costco. I'm fine with the specs but I ended up realizing that I don't like the floppy keyboard or kickstand for the way I use it.

So I'm probably going to buy this Acer. I've had a convertible Acer Chromebook for 5 years now and it's still rock solid, so if that's any indication, I should be pleased with this device.
