I would play Planescape over Neverwinter, and after Planescape, I would play Baldur's Gate. I think Neverwinter is the weakest of the three.

All are on sale.

I have this game on PC, played it not long after release and had great fondness of its storyline. Tried to play it again a year or so ago and the graphics and mechanics just didn't age well at all.

I played all these when they first came out, and I think this mini review is on point.

Planescape had the most interesting story and characters of all the D&D games of the time. Great writing all around, but I didn't feel compelled to replay it after I beat it once. Haven't played it in years, but I bet it holds up well.

The BG series is just immense. I've played the series multiple times, on different platforms, the past couple of decades. It's hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay. The writing isn't as consistent throughout (highlight being the Shadows of Amn), but there many memorable characters and moments. The game starts you as a first level squishy and leaves you as a god by the end of the final xpac. Incredible journey.

Neverwinter was a letdown. The core story paled in comparison to prior D&D games. I believe there were some well received fan made modules that you could download, but not sure if those are included in this edition. Having said that I know there are plenty of folks who have fond memories of this game.

I had some fun using the builder back in the day but honestly this game was a farking nightmare of clunkiness even when it first came out.

That seems to be the typical consensus. These Infinity Engine games are decent ports but you need to go in understanding that modern quality of life elements won't be there.

Notable this is the 'Enhanced Edition', so if you are replaying an original copy - this will look and play MUCH better.

I've replayed NWN multiple times since 2002 (PC, Mac, Android, enhanced), including most recently on iPad - which is basically the same version. It is an excellent game - very much of that era, and even in 2002 the graphics were good but not cutting edge as the focus was on the larger RPG experience.

As noted all of the D&D games for Switch are on sale, I haven't played any yet but have played them on tablet (iPad) and for me NWN is the most 'modern' feeling, and through the years I prefer BG2 over Planescape, but that is me - and they feel the least 'enhanced' but still work. They (BG 1/2 and PS:T) feel pretty out of place on a touchscreen or controller for me, so I prefer them on the PC/Mac. NWN works a bit better but would still be better on a computer.

Does this look any better on other consoles? I know it's very old.

At full price I would not buy this, but for $10 this is worth it on the Switch if you want to play the original campaigns, expansions, and modules. But the Switch version is very limited -- you can't download custom modules except for a very tiny official list, and you can only connect to one or two of the online MMO server worlds. (Yes, there are still running Neverwinter mini-mmo worlds.) But $10, go for it.

I would recommend playing the first campaign only for the tutorial, learn the interfce, then skip to the first or really the second expansion. I mean if you enjoy the first campaign by all means keep playing it, but the the third campaign "Hordes of the Underdark" is the only one that really holds up today. Tons of janky pathfinding and stuff, but the RPG and story stuff in that one holds up.

You probably want the PC version. There's TONS of custom modules, even new modules coming out [lukescull.com]. If you have a higher end PC you can try the official HD Models & Textures Pack https://neverwintervault.org/proj...nity-fixes

If you want to install modules use this tool, it makes everything into a one-click install. Just give it a URL and go. https://neverwintervault.org/proj...r-tool-nit

I have heard the Android and iPhone versions are actually pretty good -- and you can actually install custom modules and do everything the PC version can on them too. I don't think I could play on such a tiny screen with touch only though. Maybe with a keyboard or on a tablet.
