Marriott status is not that valuable. My last stay as a Titanium, I had to fight to get a room with a nice view. Didn't even bother asking for a suite, even though the program states I should be eligible for one. Marriott has repeatedly stated they want to take care of hotels, not members.

I was the last one in my company to stick it out with Marriott, but everyone has switched to Hilton because their rewards program is much better.

Yes, it is a promotion for everyone through 5/4/22. The catch is, it doesn't apply to existing reservations - so you'd need to rebook (at today's rates) any existing reservation to benefit from this.

basically each paid stay gets 1000 extra points and 2 stay credits per night instead of one.

no bonus for any points/cash and points reservations.

So when you make the purchase between February 8 and May 4, 2022, can the stay dates be any day this year? Or it must also be between February 8 and May 4?

Your stay will qualify. A "stay" in Marriott terms is just that... it is the act of staying at their property. When you book your reservation is completely irrelevant for the terms of this bonus (and all Marriott bonuses).
Yeah it's possible that the word "stay" simply means that you might have a stay from Feb 8th to Feb 10 for example but you registered after Feb 10th and therefore that stay does not get the bonus. Whereas if you have an existing reservation for a stay and you've now registered, then that stay counts even if the reservation was made prior to when you registered.
I guess we will see what happens. Fingers crossed.

a "stay" refers to when you actually stay at the hotel, i.e. when you check in at the hotel, to when you check out.
no need to rebook anything. your existing reservations will be fine if they fall in the promo period.
you just need to register for the promotion before you check in (this is what "Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion" means)

Marriott's definition of a 'stay' from their terms at https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/...default.mi
Quote :
A "Stay" is a stay of one or more consecutive nights at the same Participating Property by a Member who: (A) provides his/her Membership Number at the time of reservation or at check-in; (B) pays a Qualifying Rate or redeems a Points redemption Award or a promotional Award for the stay; and (C) stays in one of the reserved guest rooms.

Your assumption above is spot on. I explained it in an earlier response to someone that was thinking you had to reserve the room after registration b/c of this verbiage... "Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion."

That is referring to the stay, not the act of making the reservation. It is implying that even if you make a stay during the promo period, but you failed to register prior to the stay, then it would not qualify for the promo. i.e. If you stay at a Marriott on Feb 10th (during the promo period), but you don't register for the promo until Feb 28th (still in registration window), then the Feb 10th stay would not qualify. They run these promos each year, and the terms are almost always the same.

I am 100% positive this is how it works. I stay in hotels 100+ nights annually and always play the promo/rewards game.

the stay must be between Feb 8 and May 4.
timing of making the purchase/reservation doesn't matter.
you just need to be registered for this promotion before you check in for you stay.

For anyone that is an existing member and is having issues registering… if you call customer support they will register you. It took me less than 3 minutes calling the Titanium Elite hotline and it took my colleague less than a minute using the Ambassador hotline. Customer service knew right away when I called and had no issues registering me.

I've had the opposite experience. I traveled enough in 2021 to be Globalist at Hyatt, Titanium at Marriott, and Diamond at Hilton. Hyatt is by far the best when staying at nice resorts as a globalist, but Marriott has been great as well, and Hilton just sucks consistently. I will say that the Marriott benefits when staying at business hotels isn't the greatest… I don't like how stingy they are with waters, at Hyatt I have no issues getting free waters, but for vacations such as resorts the perks are great.

that was copy/paste from their terms. i wouldn't take a chance and NOT earn the bonuses. Dontknow
I think you're overcomplicating it, and I don't see any of that kind of text anywhere in their T&C.

Registration of your Marriott Bonvoy® account is required. Marriott Bonvoy members who register for this promotion by April 20, 2022, will earn 1,000 bonus Points per eligible paid night, plus one bonus Elite Night Credit per eligible paid night, during the 85-night promotion earning period. The promotion earning period is for eligible paid nights completed between February 8, 2022, and May 4, 2022, at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties. Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion.

- need to register
- earning period is between 2/8 and 5/4, must register by 4/20
- only reservations made after registration will qualify

Now it does say "only stays made after registration will qualify". Here's where we get into what a stay is - a stay is continuous days at the same hotel - even if they are on different reservations. This is a usual sticking point because some promos give bonuses by "stays" in which case some people tried to trick the system and break up a contiguous reservation into multiple ones (e.g. instead of a 3 day reservation, make it (3) 1 day reservations), so in order to avoid that, a reservation and stay are 2 different things. The way I read that last line of text is:

"Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion."
If you were staying at a hotel now and planned to be there for a month but registered just today, your stay would have started before registration, even though you would have potential qualifying nights in February.

Correct, and they redefined that a number of years ago such that consecutive reservations at the same hotel also qualify as one stay.

The good news is, I'd imagine rates are down right now because of Omicron spike.
