Today is National #PlanYourVacation Day!

Marriott Bonvoy members (free to join) can earn faster Elite status and more points for free nights, experiences and more with each paid night of stay. You must register for this promotion prior to booking. Members get 1,000 bonus points and an additional Elite Night Credit for each paid night of the member's stay – effectively making each night count twice during the promotion earning period

Registration starts today [marriott.com]
Promotional Earning Period: February 8 to May 4, 2022.

This means a new member could achieve Silver Elite status with just a five-night stay – unlocking elevated Silver Elite benefits such as priority late check-out and 10% bonus points on eligible future hotel stays – all while earning substantial bonus points towards their next free night, Marriott Bonvoy Moments experience, or even to put towards trip add-ons like flights or car rental.

There is no limit to the number of bonus points or bonus Elite Night Credits that members can earn during the promotion, meaning members can earn one bonus Elite Night Credit and 1,000 bonus points for each night of the promotion earning period. As long as they are registered, members can begin earning bonuses from the very first eligible night that falls within the earning period, and on each eligible night thereafter.

Terms:
The promotion earning period runs from February 8, 2022 to May 4, 2022.
Stays completed prior to registration are not eligible to earn bonus points or bonus Elite Night Credits with this promotion. Members must register here before April 20, 2022.
With this promotion, members can earn unlimited bonus points and bonus Elite Night Credits during the 85-day earning period, up to 85,000 bonus points and 85 bonus Elite Night Credits.
Members must book stays directly with Marriott on Marriott.com, Marriott Bonvoy Mobile app or through a reservations center. Rates available through most third-party online retailers and select travel agency rates do not qualify for this promotion.

Marriott status is not that valuable. My last stay as a Titanium, I had to fight to get a room with a nice view. Didn't even bother asking for a suite, even though the program states I should be eligible for one. Marriott has repeatedly stated they want to take care of hotels, not members.
I was the last one in my company to stick it out with Marriott, but everyone has switched to Hilton because their rewards program is much better.
Yes, it is a promotion for everyone through 5/4/22. The catch is, it doesn't apply to existing reservations - so you'd need to rebook (at today's rates) any existing reservation to benefit from this.

basically each paid stay gets 1000 extra points and 2 stay credits per night instead of one.

no bonus for any points/cash and points reservations.

Because Marriott has the best "best rate guarantee" of any hotel chain.

If you find a lower rate on an instantly-confirmable third party site, they'll match it AND take an additional 25% off (or 5,000 extra points).

That way, I get all my loyalty benefits and nights and still am paying less than Expedia. Or using my corporate rate (which is eligible to earn). Or booking via Amex/FHR/Virtuoso, which are also eligible rates and usually match the hotel's best available rate (almost no hotel sells rooms at rack rate unless it is a sold out situation, so not sure why you think Marriott'a website offers rack), but include things like $100 room service credit, guaranteed late checkout, one category upgrade, etc (independent of your status).
I've argued with hotel chains in the past about rates and rarely does it work out. It does not appeal to me with so many discounts out there. I get offers from them calling me or offering me 3 free nights to attend one of their time share presentations. Just too many hoops to deal with.

It doesn't really matter anymore. That is outdated advice.

Since the Marriott family left, the new Execs have been selling off properties (which removes them from being managed by corporate) - less than 1% remain now.

I have had great success at franchised and corporate properties with benefits - key is to educate yourself before booking. Each property does their own thing.
I have been wrong before, but I believe your 1% estimate is incorrect.

Looking at Mariott's 2020 10-K they state: "At year-end 2020, we had 5,493 franchised and licensed properties (837,912 rooms)." That is out of about 7500 properties. The remaining 2000ish properties represent roughly 30% of the total.

Since the 2021 10-K is not yet available, looking at the 2021 10-Q they now identify 5804 franchises across 7892 properties. This would drop the remainder to about 25%.

I will also state that the last 2+years have been very odd or difficult years for hotels. Prior to the pandemic hotels brand footprints where expanding with huge upward growth plans. That came to a abrupt halt, then a hold, and now are starting to redefine what the future holds.

I've been a Platinum for several years. You don't always get an upgrade. Even if you use Suite Nights, you don't always get an upgrade.

OTOH, I've stayed in JW Marriotts that upgraded me to massive suites and club access with sumptuous food and free drinks. And I've stayed in Hampton Inns that kept me on ground floor basic rooms. Them's the breaks. So take your lumps with the perks.
I'm with you. If people look at the programs as entitlements, one tends to not have a positive feeling due to any missed (small) opportunity but if one looks at it as a bonus, the world is a much happier place.

I have had both extremes in treatment. I make the best of the worst and enjoy the best.

Dang it...have existing trip to Maui for a week in Feb. Rebooking increases the total price by $500. Not sure if that's worth it.

Definitely not worth it especially this early in the year. If it was near year end and this would've been enough to push you from platinum to titanium then maybe, but even that is a stretch. Better off using that $500 towards a nice 3 day weekend and getting the 6 days.

I wouldn't do SPG lifetime and later Marriott if I could do over. Hilton is generally better IMHO as a whole. A lot of us spent >200 nights a year at SPG/Marriott and see less than 20% upgrades after well over a million spend so anybody in it these days its going to be worse and worse. The rooms don't pull tail and won't even please a wife anymore. I wish I could have spent my points on a bigger d**k or psychotherapy

Same. I'm Platinum. Has anyone figured out how to make this promo generate? I can't see it in the app or on a pc.
I'm titanium elite and it shows up under my promo when I logged in.

But for a 1,000 points, I'm not sure it is something to get excited about if one does not need the elite nights. Have not travel in ages. Welcome gifts used to be 300 or 500 points if you do not get the market item. Sometimes hotel gives you both as 300 or 500 points is not a lot of value.

1000 points/per night is not worth going thru hoops. Just get one of their credit cards and earn a lot more when paying for room.

Not sure if they run quartely promos anymore. One used to be able to earn around 200k a quarter with promos if traveling every week.

The idea that Hilton rewards is better than Marriott is silly. Takes a lot more Hilton points to redeem for a night. Have 350k with Hilton for more than 10 years that never gets use because Marriott always redeem cheaper than Hilton. Only use Hilton points when I need to be in a Hilton property for a conference. Marriott also usually give fifth night free if redeeming for four nights in one stay.

It seems like Marriott no longer have the travel package 250K+ redemption for 7 nights in pretty much any worldwide resort + 1:1 air mile redemption. That package used to be far superior to anything Hilton has to offer.

Not sure why so much fascination with upgrades if traveling weekly. Unless traveling with family, used to not want the bigger room. Makes it harder to find things and not leave things behind when checking out. All I care about is what food is in the lounge.

I'm a Hyatt Globalist, which is far more valuable to me.

The 1k points are pathetic...and worth little. It's the extra night I care about.

It is not an extra night. It is just a counter towards your annual and lifetime status.

You get like 15 of these just for having their credit card. At least, I assume that is still the case.

I stayed in hotels 300+ nights from 2019-2021, and Marriott invited me to their focus group program online, called POV.

I thought I was going to get some perks or freebies, at least some partner certificates for my input. I quickly realized it was just a honey pot to keep all the bad reviews off Google and Trip Advisor. Every comment was about losing major things like room cleaning and breakfast for good. Cleaning every night should not be a perk you pay points for.
