Why is it that these "gaming" laptops only come with 8gigs.

But that's one of the easiest, cheapest upgrades, right?

Alder Lake and Ryzen 6000 laptops are hitting the market in the next month. Could also be a reason for the prices are dropping which is a good thing.

Got this for my son for Christmas. He's been happy with it. It has been cheaper though. I paid $810 with tax AND 2 years support and 2 years accidental coverage at the beginning of December with a 10% off coupon for AAA members that was floating around.

Be aware this model might have a common issue on motherboard, many people said theirs wouldn't turn on in about a month. Mine just dead too yesterday, about 3 weeks and a half, tried to disconnect the battery did not work, scheduled dell technician onsite. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/com...urning_on/

Bought one of these with international warranty for a student in India…the motherboard went out after about 2 months and Dell says they won't repair it unless it's in USA ..best customer service 👍🏼 and they demand about 150$ to repair it in India which is like 1/5th the rate of the product for a motherboard …never buying a Dell again!

Is this better than the 699$ Lenovo Legion 5 from Walmart :
https://slickdeals.net/f/15564067-lenovo-legion-5-amd-ryzen-r5-gtx-1650ti-8gb-256gb-1tb-gaming-laptop-699-at-walmart
I'd say yes primarily because while the 3050 isn't a huge boost over the 1650, it can use DLSS, which can help make up for the fairly meager 4GB of VRAM. I actually bought the 3050 (non-Ti) model on sale a couple weeks ago for $618 shipped. They had a 10% off coupon. I'm really impressed for the price. I bought as a portable now-and-again gaming/VM/testing rig and I like it. Most titles run just fine at medium-high 1080p. Control runs great with DLSS. Don't expect amazing ray tracing performance.

The only issue is that if you want to add a second M.2 SSD, you need to buy the a screw bracket as the laptop doesn't come with it. It's $13 at Amazon.

The screen is a bit dim and slowish response times, but generally it's fine. I've played several hours of Back4Blood on it and I've got no complaints since it's a secondary system. Again, for your main PC I'd recommend the 144Hz or better display since they have better response times.

Hope this helps.

same thing happened to me on the last day of my return period, contacted dell support on the same day to diagnose the issue, was told that the motherboard went bad, dell want to schedule a technician to come to my house and replace the motherboard on a month old laptop, i told them to forget about it and start the return process, got a legion 5 with a 3060 instead.

Both ram and hard drive space are completely upgradable. There's a mounting bracket that needs to be bought to put another nvme drive in. InsaneeXproval posted an amazon link.

I get this general feeling prices are falling even though supply issues abound.

By this, I think the economy is going down the crapper.
LOL, so you complain about high prices? And low prices? Too much unemployment? Not enough unemployment? (oops sorry, "worker shortage") A year from now we'll hear how there isn't "enough" COVID...

I wonder what's the fail rate on these. I know people tend to only go online and complain when there's a problem so wondering how many of these sold didn't have a problem vs how many that did and voiced a complaint online. Gauging on whether I should take a risk or not since these are within my price range. I haven't owned a Dell since college 20+ years ago and even then they were crap.

You seem a not a little dumb.

I'm not complaining about prices.

Honestly a blessing. The ram dell puts in their lower end machines are terrible. I feel better about throwing away 8gb of shitty ram than 16gb of shitty ram.

Owned the 3050ti 10500 version of this laptop for a few months:

1. Ram upgrade is a must. At least buy another stick of 8gb to make it dual channel. Better to completely replace the ram since it's significantly worse than the normal ram you can buy online.

2. 120hz has terrible response time making it feel more like a 60hz screen. Look up some reviews on it. I wouldn't get this if I was serious about shooters.

3. If you want to buy another nvme for this laptop you need to buy a 15$ mounting bracket. Sucks that dell was too cheap to put in a 1$ piece of metal.

Still a good computer after upgrading the ram.
I was able to order the mounting bracket as well as a heat sink for this laptop from Dell for less than $15. They did try to charge me $30 for expedited shipping by default. Had to complain to get rid of it. You have to order the part through the chat through the spare parts department.

Thank you insaneXproval! That helps. I did order this yesterday based on the fact that 3050 gpu is superior to 1650
