8gb soldered ram with no slots kills it. Can't be that much savings, why do they keep crippling tech?

Slickdeals should ban posting of laptops with 8GB that cost more than $400.

I can hardly believe that a 16" laptop is non-upgradeable. Boggles the mind.

This is the worst configuration for a laptop. Mobile phones have more memory now.

Especially when it is regular DDR4, which does not have to be soldered. At this point any new laptop with only 8GB soldered is little better than e-waste.

Indeed why not LPDDR4X 4267? At least then there would be a point in soldering it.

Just wait a bit and get DDR5 USB 4 and a much better Gen 12 or Ryzen 6000 series. 12GB DDR should be the min especially with Ryzen which uses 2 GB of it.

Hey, if this was upgradeable, I'd seriously consider it. My friend has the IdeaPad Gaming with the same CPU but a very inferior screen, and it's lightning-fast. This screen would be incredible but the whole machine is gimped with forever-8gb of RAM.

And graphics for that rather good screen (16:10 as well as 2560) will take more of the system RAM than a regular FHD - how frustrating…

Yeah it's a bummer. The Vega 8 I-GPU will run plenty of stuff but it uses system ram so you could have 2GB+ used by that. It's kinda sus that a 4.5lb laptop doesn't have removable ram, I'll bet the build quality on this is similar to the garbage Flex 5's they had on sale a year or so ago.

Now?

I'm rocking a Razerphone 2 with 8gb ram from 2018.

This sucks, such a good spec but the 8gb non upgradeable ram means it'll never be purchased.

No need when Lenovo Ideapads are not designed to be opened and closed.
