Even if these are plain white, Philips Hue bulbs are much higher quality than "plain ole" LED bulbs, so $1 is a great deal for them.

BS shows $9.97 for the only store around me with inventory.

Hue is super confusing because there are three tiers of adjustability: fixed white, tunable white (ambiance), and full color. All can dim and be controlled through the app/Zigbee controllers.

This is the "worst" tier, but it's still a great deal for an excellent light bulb. If you're in the hue ecosystem already, you can put these in fixtures you don't use much simply to beef up the range of the hue Zigbee network.

50watt equivalent is not very bright at all. I think most people use 60 watt as standard but personally I like 75-100watts with a dimmer

These things are extremely dim. Only good as a nightstand lamp.

No. The 50 watts is just a general equivalent given for comparison of the 600 lumen light output to that of standard incandescent bulbs. They use 7 watts.

Wrong. These aren't their white ambiance bulbs. Hold off on the smugness if you have no idea what you're talking about.

No, that's just an insane product. "I want a bulb to randomly change color but I'm too lazy to hit one button in the app to make that happen."
Not random, but in Ace Hardware I saw a bulb on the shelf that changed color from red to green to white automatically. A Christmas Bulb. A normal bulb for a lamp, not christmas lights on a string or anything. So no, not randomly, but they have color changing bulbs for specific reasons. So say "Ha!" to all those trolls. I'm trying to find the link...

50 watt equivalent is pretty dim, as stated, but if you have a situation where you have multiple bulbs together such as in a vanity, these might be perfect. Unfortunately, for a lot of those situations, the bulbs call for chandelier base or globe bulbs. ;-( Alexa lets you group bulbs together and control them all at once through the app or using your voice.

laugh out loud

Solid necromance.

Yes, I HAVE seen some holiday bulbs that do that -- red green for xmas, red blue for July 4, etc.

I took the poster to mean that they want it to just randomly select something new in the RGB space every 20s or so.

Yeah... didn't realize how much of a resurrection I was performing until after.

Anyway. Here's the 4th of July bulb: https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lighting-and-electrical/light-bulbs/led-bulbs/3004059?store=... [acehardware.com]
