I've heard that the fingerprint security is hardware based. What happens if this drive is connect to something that you are remotely connecting to? Does the "session" expire leaving this inaccessible remotely?

It's been this price since 1/17. Maybe the new normal price?

True, it looks like the new normal. I purchased the same along with a 128GB flash drive (of $22 value) as a bundle on the Samsung website 1 week back for a total of $146(pretax). Currently the bundle is unavailable though.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Digitimes: Samsung new NAND flash capacity coming online in 2H21 may worsen price falls.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.

How often do you need to renew the encryption authentication, and how does that work? Is this strictly for data that is accessed sporadically? What if you put games on it, but also important data? If you're playing a game, will it lock you out and crash the game until you authenticate?
