It looks like they do have 30 day price protection. If you purchased in store you have to take the receipt back to the store. https://community.microcenter.com...protection

Are these prices coming down because some new CPU model(s) expected soon or competition from Intel newer chips? My last build was Ryzen 1600t with a B450 board but I am also a respectable senior citizen who is not keen on pulling out one CPU, putting another and Ebay-ing the old one etc. I let my previous builds just collect dust (Well, I made a TrueNAS system with my FX8320E, a free CPU, thanks to the AMD CPU litigation, refund etc.)

Microcenter is also running a deal for 10% off most computer building parts with a CPU purchase. Combined with the $20 off with motherboard purchase there are some really great deals to be had as long as you don't need a stand alone graphics card.

Hoping when the 3D v-cache ones come out these will drop even further, similar to what happened with the 3000 series when XT was released. Once that 5600x hits $200ish I'm in

Returning my Ryzen 5 5600g from Amazon and getting the Ryzen 7 for the same price can't believe Amazon doesn't price match.

Probably some from the competition from Intel, and the CPUs just having been around for over a year now. The 5800X3D will come out soon and will probably slot right back into that $450 price point. The only way to get away with more would be if AMD can convince the world it beats the 12900K in gaming, which it might slightly. But the multi-core performance is definitely less. Inb4 $500.

Prices could come down more but it looks like there will only be a 5800X3D 8-core model, and it might not be in high supply. AMD would rather send the 3D cache'd chiplets to Epyc server customers who will pay a lot more.

Then it's largely over for the AM4 socket. There's been a rumor of Renoir-X chips [wccftech.com], basically the 4700G, 4600G, and 4300G, but with the iGPU disabled. If they do that they had better sell those for dirt cheap. If you can get a 5600G with Zen 3 and iGPU for $200, what's the fair price for a 4600 with Zen 2 and no iGPU? $120? $100?
