Within the US, TextNow's SIM card -- when used with their Free Nationwide Talk & Text plan -- simply provides limited cellular data to allow TextNow's app to be used (in the US) when you're not within WiFi range.
Even within the US, if you take out TextNow's SIM card and just use WiFi, your current TextNow services would still work as they do today. Your current TextNow also still works if you sign in to the same TextNow account on other compatible devices connected using WiFi or cellular data.
Outside the US, you will need to either use WiFi or provide cellular data, swapping your international SIM card in for TextNow's if your device only has a single SIM card slot, to continue using TextNow as you've had been.
Try downloading the Textnow app onto the Sprint phone with the Sprint sim. Then signup and see if you are able to call over both wifi and cellular. If yes, then wait a month or two for Textnow to offer you a free replacement sim since they are moving to T-Mobile. If that fails, then the only way to get Textnow to use over cellular would to be to buy a sim from them.
I earlier tried with a boost phone but it always ask me to get activation sim and now using tmobile unlocked phone and tried using old sprint sim but it again ask for activation eventhough I was using their app a quite a while on this phone as wifi option..wonder why they can't able to accept the Sprint sim. Or there is any trick for that without activation?

I tried to input used/brandnew sim cards numbers from tmo/sprint.
all lead to "buy the start kit"
i assume that they are forcing you to purchase their sim card to use this service.
anyway, i purchased one for testing purpose. use PayPal to be safe.
To my understand, this is a sim card that can be used to make phone call and text function through Textnow app. In for 1. I hope it can accepting porting number.
if you are going to use voice/txt over data, then why not Google Voice ?
When I installed the latest build of the Google voice app it won't let me use their app on a phone lacking a SIM to make outgoing calls. When I try the app wants to send a verification code to whatever phone number is associated with the SIM inside the phone. As of now my spare phone has no SIM card in it, so I can't make free outgoing calls with Google voice. The Textnow SIM is the better option as you don't even need wifi to make calls and do texting. Like Google voice one can use textnow within the app or on a computer, which is very handy.

Not sure how reliable it is now, but freedompop use to be a nightmare for many people.
No kidding.. I had them y years ago, and I was charged recently for service.. second time it happened. I saw it only because I have alerts turned on for every charge. Unbelievable!! Called my credit card company to reverse the charges right away.
Will this work for getting around the stupid twitter phone verification?
they require you to pay extra to receive verification texts.. not joking.
kid has this. when on wifi it works fine, notifies of texts, calls. when off wifi you have to manually refresh the textnow app to see new text messages.
Porting to Textnow is usually not recommended because the company recycles numbers relatively quickly if not used regularly.
I am not too much familiar with any of the porting techniques.
What are the charges to keep the number active here?
Assuming if I keep the line active, would they this be a good idea to move the number from Vonage? My current Vonage charges are about $15/mo with about 300 minutes, but would like to keep the number.

It's not supposed to be like that as some reported that they can able to activate on sprint sim. Not sure if it has to a sprint phone but I tried on boost phone without luck.. also I have been offered several times free upgrade via app but I am unable to activate it because of these reason though I am using their app for over 2 years now

I use this as a 2nd line. Only good thing is that it can use cell/ data signal or over wifi. When I walk into work at my building, my signal cuts off completely but luckily I can still use the app regularly cause of wifi.
