Same sensor with canon 5D mark 4, with a canon adapter, you can reuse all your EF lenses. it is good if you want to step into mirrorless from DSLR

What'd be a good, basic camera these days? I have a T1i that I've had for a really long time. I think that line is up to T7i now (maybe T8i). I can't afford anything this expensive and don't need mirrorless or anything as it's just for family vacations and things like that.

I don't even need to stay with Canon since I don't have any accessories I need to be able to take to a new camera.

This may be the lowest price ever for the EOS R. The sensor is a little old. But for most people, this will still be a very capable camera at a good price.

This camera is currently $1600-ish everywhere else. So this may be an Amazon flash deal. Not sure how long it'll last.

Just a heads up for everyone looking at this deal it is an absolutely amazing deal for a really good and highly capable body. The only thing to consider is that Canon is expected to release 3 more budget-friendly R body cameras Siamese cheap is $700 which would be like an 80d replacement or an EOS RP replacement

Just my experience:
T8i added 4K video but some of the other features was cutting back. Both T7i and T8i are very good depends if you need 4K and if you can get them cheap (many used are in the 4-500 range). Don't do anything lower than T7i, that is when the Dual Pixel focus was added and it is much better for AF performance.

If you have budget around $500-800 and still on SLR
Canon 6D2 is the FF equivalent of T7/8i and you can use all the existing EF lens

If you have budget around $900-2000 for Mirrorless
for Canon mirrorless, you get better AI/eye/face/people AF, if you can get RP/R that is fantastic except you will need lens with image stabilization if you shoot more than 70mm.
for Sony, A7C is between A73 and A74 and good price with IBIS (in-body stabilization) so you can use most lens including those without build-in image stabilization if you are into telephoto.
for Nikon, they are still trying to catch up on low end, but if you can get one of the Z5/6 cheap on the lower price range, that works fine.

A72 have horrible battery live, don't do it.
If you are into Sony, at least get A7C or A73.

Canon T100 is a good base level DSLR. Sub $400. Only Walmart has it.

I just need a camera for basic photography only, no videos. Canon Mirrorless M50 or DSLR T100 or T6? Price range $500-800. Which ones would you guys recommend?

Fantastic price with a big BUT -- the rumor mill is suggesting the R and RP's replacement will be announced at CP+, the the big camera show in Japan later this month. It's plausible that the RP's replacement will leapfrog the original R at a price point below $1K. How? It will have an OVF instead of an EVF.

That said, Amazon has a 30 day return period. So you could buy the R now, keep it boxed up until later this month to see if Canon makes an announcement. If yes, then you could decide to keep or return. If they don't you have the R at this great price.
