1. m1 air trackpad is a lot better because the click in the thinkbook trackpad is a little loud and the texture is not as smooth as glass surface trackpads. Thinkbook trackpad is serviceable and accurate, it's not really bad.
2. m1 air speakers are better but not so much
3. m1 keyboard backlighting is much better due to automatic screen brightness sensors and less light leak. thinkbook has manual key brightness. Both keyboards have almost the same depth and tactility. I personally like the m1 keyboard in terms of look
4. m1 air has no fan. Thinkbook has 2 fans, and you can hear them from time to time if plugged in. In battery mode the fans are running but you barely hear them. The fan of this thinkbook doesn't turn off, it will always run and a a bit overkill.
5. thinkbook does not run hot, fan is a little aggressive. I think they could have made the fans spin slower to achieve a quieter operation when plugged in.
6. m1 air screen has better contrast but it's glossy compared to matte screen of the thinkbook. Day-to-day usage I don't find viewing on a glossy screen a problem. The screen cleaning from smudges and oils is annoying though. Matte screens are so much easier to clean and hide these marks.
7. Surfing, music, office documents. m1 air battery at 12-14 hrs. thinkbook battery doing the same task at better battery mode is around 9 hrs. Intelligent mode goes down to 5 hrs.
8. Autocad and sketchup. m1 air battery 9-11 hrs. thinkbook 4 hrs at intelligent cooling. It's not advisable to use the better battery mode as it's not as responsive with this kind of task.
9. webcam on m1 is better than thinkbook. mic for both is good
10. The screen hinge of thinkbook goes 180degree. This provides you with the optimal angle when you're using a laptop stand to increase the height of the screen and reduce neck pain. The m1 air has an angle limit which forces you to look down on a steep angle and washes out the screen color (this limit is obvious at 25deg. stand angle). This is only a problem if you use a laptop stand like moft or ringke.
11. thinkbook is lighter, not so much but you'll easily feel the diff one hand
12. thinkbook case has a better chamfer edge. I find the m1 air case edge too sharp and prone to dents
13. thinkbook screen to body ratio is better
14. thinkbook has a few garbage preinstalled products
15. if you use an ssd external drive. The read and write transfer speed through usb-c is a lot faster in m1 than the thinkbook
16. you get a built in usb-a port and hdmi with thinkbook which is a godsend in a business environment (meeting rooms etc). m1 air is dongle life
17. Both have power delivery and will charge even with small usb c chargers
18. fingerprint readers are reliable and fast for both
m1 air is more expensive so it might not be a good comparison. You also have to consider the 16gb ram and upgradeable 512ssd of the thinkbook vs 8gb of air. The m1 air is fast but when you hit the ram limit threshold, you will really feel the stutters and beachball slowness. As long as you don't hit that ram limitation, I can easily say the m1 air feels faster and more responsive. The battery life is also consistent and predictable. But at 650usd, this is better than the macbook air unless you're into macos system. Hopefully this will help a lot of buyers on the fence between these two products
