One of the best games of all time in my opinion (I may be a little biased though haha). I have beaten this game on Nintendo Switch and Xbox (~113% on both)... might have to buy and beat it on PlayStation too! I can't wait to instabuy Silksong when/if it ever comes out.
Haven't played, but saw my bf investing tons of hours on the switch. Now that it's on PS4, bought it for myself! Really happy to play on a system with an adult-sized controller LOL
Exactly what I was going to say. Won't ever play again but will probably check out the sequel for the improvements because it was a respectable first title by a very small indie developer.
Edit: And for those trying to spin the narrative now that only people who play a few hours say anything bad about it, I got the Platinum for this game on PS4 after buying it before it came on Plus. Did everything legit and explored everything besides using exploit for only the last mega boss rush trial at the very end.
Some excellent music (hornet), environmental art style (not all but more places than not) and enemy animations but world is overall too empty even for a Souls-esque. They should have made the world smaller to give it more weight. Backtracking became tedious and unenjoyable as game progressed as did the overall game as I just wanted to finish it and move on. It was overall depressing and too dark.
This review covers why better than I have time for. She lives games and has played 1000s. More valid and articulate arguments than toxic vocal fanboys who overhype and try to discredit any criticism because from what I've noticed, those are the ones who tend to not play many games to have a valid guage to begin with:
This is a great game. I have a few hundred hours into it and still pick it up from time to time to replay certain sections or keep working on some of the post game content (which is insanely difficult). If you like metroidvainas, or even if you don't try this out.
Excellent game, nice simple music, huge open world (not as huge as some make it out to be), and visually beautiful (although many areas can be a little too dark and hard to see).
Warning - This game is hard, damn hard. The most difficult game I've ever played. It's so difficult that it's frustrating and actually makes the game a bit unenjoyable.
IMO Castlevania: Symphony of the Knight and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Knight are much more enjoyable to play, and have way better music.
If you never played it but like this genre, you do not want to pass this game up. Plus Silksong (Hollow Knight 2) will be out real soon.

I agree, very much overhyped. I love the style of the game as I love the Metroidvania genre but after just a few hours of play I moved on to other games and never got the bug to come back to this.
if you think this game is overhyped your out of your mind. Tell me you wouldn't buy silk song if it dropped today. Also one of the greatest games ever made.
