Totally disagree with this opinion.

IMO, at this price this grinder is a no brainer for anyone in the market for an inexpensive. America's Test Kitchen rates it their top inexpensive grinder.

ATK performed blind taste tests with the staff and Boston-area experts (coffee dealers, coffee shop owners, baristas and regular coffee drinkers), and no one could tell the difference between coffee made from grounds from bur vs blade grinders.

That suggests that uniform size of grounds has little to not detectable impact on flavor, even for coffee experts. Even more so for us regular coffee drinkers.

I've had this grinder for a few months and it's been great. I follow James Hoffman's instructions on approximating lattes and cappuccinos at home with this grinder and an aeropress and was shocked by how decent the coffee turned out.

Just keep in mind to pulse the grinder, then shake the grounds, then pulse again. This keeps grounds from hiding under the blade.

As good a place as any to start if you want to try the bean thing. But you'll buy a burr grinder sometime in the future, too.

My understanding is that this is the best of the worst coffee grinders

Great grinder, used it daily for years and only upgraded because we wanted something larger to grind multiple days' coffee for two people once every week or two. Highly recommended for the price.

I've had this grinder for a few years. I primarily use it to grind erythitol into confectioners for recipes.

3rd pic in the listing calls it a conical burr grinder.
It is NOT.
Basic blade grinder.

I use one for making coffee-garlic or coffee-cayenne rubs.
Angled top of this one negatively impacts turning it over and using top to transfer results.
Also good for occasional grinding of "flavored" coffee beans, no purging of the hopper or cleaning of the chute. Easier cleaning than a burr grinder.

Anyone know if those magic bullet blenders grind coffee OK? Because we have one of those from Costco somewhere

Agreed. I've had this grinder for possibly a decade. It grinds coffee very inconsistently. I found a manual pulsing of the button gives more consistent results. After buying ~$100 burr grinder, the convenience factor is too great to ever use this for coffee again.

I now use this for spice grinding every blue moon. Clean up is a bit tidius. I use part of a kitchen paper towel (from those quicker picker upper kind) and fold it a bit and use it to wipe the majority of the stuck fine dust. I don't think I've ever cleaned under the blade, nor have I bothered to find out if it can be disassembled for easier clean up, so take my words with a grain of salt.

All in all, fun grinder to use. Can pulverize things pretty well, but some sifting may be needed for spices.

Good price and it'll grind coffee beans, but buy once cry once in my opinion. Even the cheapest burr grinder will be a lot better than this, and if you enjoy fresh coffee you'll probably just buy one eventually.

Yes, beans always need to be shredded, but if you really, really enjoy drinking it, it's not a problem to buy another grinder

I have a small 5 cup coffee maker and use 15 grams of beans. I shake as I grind for about 5 seconds. When finished keep the lid on tight and then turn upside down and pulse a bit so more of the ground coffee falls in the hopper. I then take the "blade" end of a citrus peeler and run around the inside of the grinder to loosen the grounds and dump them in the plastic hopper. I then use the citrus peeler blade end to loosen the grounds in the hopper and then dump them in the filter. I use my aeropress funnel to make dumping easier. All this takes about 30 seconds.

Echoing most of the other people posting, but have had this since November 2016 and use it on a daily basis (unless grinding ahead for a couple days). Never have had an issue with this definitely recommend it.

As far as cheap grinders go this is great. It doesn't do a great job though for coffee as the grounds are really uneven, you will get too big of chunks and too fine of powder. If you aren't wanting to spend more this is still going to be your best purchase and I don't regret it overall, it just may make you want to upgrade it to something better for coffee.

I'm sure this is fine for spices but for the love of jeebus do not use a blade grinder for coffee. Just buy ground coffee or get a burr grinder. If you're willing to spend money for good beans worth grinding at home, don't cheap out and waste them in a blade grinder.
