Thank you for sharing this. I bought it with the audible. Maybe I'll finally learn to accept myself. People tell me I come off as rude or antisocial cause I tend to be quiet in social gatherings. I'm tired of hearing that.
As a long time introvert I learned (not until my late 20s) that I was far better off adapting, forcing myself and faking be social. Forming and maintaining relationships are one of the most important aspects of the human condition and is often tied to success and happiness.

As it turns out the longer you fake being social, the easier it gets. Today I still feel drained and dirty after a networking mixer, but I no longer get sweaty and have a panic attack when I have to make eye contact with a group of people.

Practice Practice Practice.

Incidentally introverts make the best leaders and CEOs in business, but that doesn't mean they stare at their shoes in groups either!
This might be available at the library and is worth investigating.

Back story:
I stumbled across Costco now selling audiobooks.
I thought, ok, maybe this could be a good thing.
Costco uses it's own app however.
For some reason I thought I'd check my library.
Sure enough, I've found everyone one of them that were being sold, available to be checked out.

I just did the same thing with this title.
My library has it in multiple formats, including audiobook and ebook.

If you have access to the library, it may prove beneficial in saving a couple bucks.
I'm able to use Overdrive, Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy via Nvidia Shield to view and listen to the items as well.

It's annoying, and I know I've been held back for higher positions because of being an introvert. Luckily, I've just found jobs that require less "face" time and more actual work and then quietly (ha!) moved up those ladders.

While I dont enjoy social interactions beyond a point and dont like to speak out unless I am adding something to the conversation, I did learn to fake it to get ahead in career. Its not the most enjoyable thing, but I just think as a cost of keeping a job. I find company of myself far more interesting.

As an extrovert with anxiety, I'm torn as to whether I need this or not. 😅

LOL the public library has had free books available to rent or "check out" I think for a few centuries now. When you leave your house it is amazing what you discover!
Yes, the library is a great resource.
That's why I mentioned it here.
Too often, I overlook it's availability and forget.
It's nice when someone reminds me of it's value.

Introvert or not, it can be accessed digitally without going into the building.
That's a win regardless of how it's viewed! Wink

This part was always the limiting factor for me, but I guess that's what it takes.

In my 30s, rather successful on paper.. still feel like a failure.

I can't believe some people are down voting this. Being naturally introverted is definitely a struggle but success (in nearly all areas of life) relies on good communication and social skills. Avoiding social situations and grasping to your introvert identity is only going to continue to perpetuate your anxiety. It's only an excuse for so long. Practice and making yourself vulnerable to make mistakes is how we grow and develop.

It sounds like you might have some imposter syndrome. Many introverts suffer from it. By all reasonable metrics I too look great on paper and often feel left out, unnoticed and like a failure. Confidence is hard to build. However, I am still an advocate of practice and fake it until you make it.

I've gotten to a point where people often say nice things to me and about me and my internal dialog is still "how do I have them fooled".

The reality is that the bar to impress people and be liked isn't actually as high as you think. Also the mistakes we make that fill us with shame aren't as noticed as we think they are.
