I thought the bottleneck in a gaming laptop is the GPU not the CPU? Wouldn't an 11th Gen Intel CPU paired with an RTX 3070 outperform a 12 Gen Intel CPU paired with an RTX 3050?
You're correct. Don't listen to fanboys who recommend things without understanding a single thing. 12th gen i7 and rtx 3070 combos having a starting price of $1500 for the budget ones and anything with decent build and quality are hovering near $1700 to $1800. And in gaming, with same graphics card, performance difference between 11th gen. Ryzen 5000H and 12th gen are minimal at best. If you're getting a good deal on 11th gen or 5000H series with powerful full powered graphics card, grab them.

Are we discussing about desktop CPU here? All the laptop reviews available for mobile Alder Lake shows it has even slightly higher power consumption than 11th gen Tiger Lake and no match for even Ryzen 5000H series for efficiency and throttles significantly in battery. In Jarrod's review, on battery, a 12th gen i9 performance is same as a 5900HX. Don't give examples of desktop processor performance while comparing laptop CPUs.
Nobody is using a 12900hk on battery, its a workstation/desktop replacement CPU meant for max performance at all costs.

Here is an efficiency chart with the 12700h showing its more efficient than the 5800h and 5900h and previous generations like Tiger Lake.

I know you were going to point that part of the Hardware Unboxed Video ang ignoring the fact they clearly mentioned that they don't do any battery life comparison or performance comparison in battery, because that depends on OEM. You're again failed to realize the fact that Laptop needs to be considered a product as whole, instead of just the CPU performance when plugged in, irrespective of the power setting. Here is again another example of battery life for i7-12700H,
https://youtu.be/W-hB_qGBeEU?t=1036 [youtube.com]
12900HK: https://www.anandtech.com/show/17...s-hybrid/6

And regarding 12900HK being a Workstation / Desktop replacement CPU, why are you again making up stuffs just like all your posts to backup your claims? Where did Intel or any reviewers mentioned that? From Intel, it has the same TDP configuration as the Core i7 and non K Processors. K means it can be overclocked but all the performances in the comparison was it is default speed. As per your logic, then Ryzen 9 5900HX Processors are also Workstation / Desktop replacement and we should not be considering battery life, right? But it still gives way higher battery life than any Intel counterparts.

But feel free to share some performance matrices in battery when the laptops are not plugged in and battery life comparison between Ryzen 5000H and Alder Lake 12700H and 12900H/HK rather than just guessing.

Let me share one for you.
https://youtu.be/AzTp3jWbrus?t=490

Here in plugged in mode, i9-12900HK in MSI GE76, a $4K laptop, getting a score of 17,515 vs 14200 in 5900HX present in ROG Strix G15 Advantage edition, a $1600 laptop, in Cenebench R23. But in battery mode, it is scoring just 12,386, which is even lower than Ryzen 9 5900HX score of 12, 901 and a whopping 30% reduction in performance. GE76 is the highest end machine from MSI, with huge cooler, very strong VRM design and biggest battery possible in a Laptop and even that can't provide any advantage in battery mode, scoring lower than a laptop of less than half the price with past generation Ryzen 5000H CPU...expect even worse result from budget laptops with 12th Gen. So, are you still going to argue on that Battery power and efficiency? Lot of reviewers like Hardware Canucks, Hardware Unboxed, Jarrod's tech, Notebookcheck even clearly mentioned that battery life and efficiency are going to be lower and even Intel did not mention anything about that in a single presentation slide for Alder Lake Mobile release presentation.

I can't imagine how much of a difference the newer 12th gen CPU will make for games, maybe just a little better for productivity apps, (corrected: a decent amount faster than a Ryzen9) like OP's deal.

Thanks for posting this deal! Never knew about this one in January and currently. Great deal compared to anything that has come before this entire year, based on specs alone.

Lenovo legion 7 deal for $1400 B&M at Walmart a half a year ago, & HP omen deals back in Nov & December, may have been comparable deals from the past for an RTX 3070 laptop with good wattage like this.
(but people may only hesitate due to average to subpar Newegg vendor [youtube.com]and $200 rebate)

Thanks for reviews guys. I'll just bite the bullet and get it. I'll return it if I don't like it.

If you have a laptop with proper cooling and ability to push 75W+ for longer duration, then when plugged in, 12th gen is actually noticable faster than Ryzen 5000H and 11th gen by good margin. I'm currently testing the new Aorus 15 with 12700H and RTX 3070 Ti and in video encoding and editing, it's good amount faster than my 5800H in Legion 5 Pro.
But for gaming, you're correct, it's just 5% to 10% max when paired with similar GPU with same TGP Configuration.

Exactly. Don't listen to this "wait for 12th" stuff. Will it be faster, yes of course. Will it matter when paired with a 3070? No, not today and probably not in 3 years for gaming. I can't speak for any kind of other cpu heavy tasks. I think the price jump will be too large compared to these deals.

I did not have any problem with Gigabyte for rebate Claim and I did over 10 since 2014. Sometimes, depending on the Product, they even offer an option of deducting a very small amount to provide a faster Processing.
