Pretty much every aspect of this is better, most importantly, the screen is significantly larger, and the lighting is significantly better. If you actually read on a regular basis, and you don't hate your eyes, then it will certainly be worth the upgrade.

That being said, a lot of SD'ers are penny wise and pound foolish, so you'll probably just keep the old one and brag to everyone that you got it for $35.

I'm curious why this is a good deal. I just replaced my 2nd generation with the 5th generation offered on Woot this week for $35. The old one developed an issue where the charging port was fickle and I was tired of messing with it to get a charge. The second generation only had a 2GB capacity and I had hundreds of books on it. I can't imagine anyone needing 32 Gigs if that is the biggest plus to buying one of these.

I'm not 100%, as I just skimmed differences on Amazon, but this has auto-light dimming and wireless charging? Otherwise, the only other difference is 8GB vs 32GB.
Edit: Haha, yeah, says as much on Best Buy's site. "Everything in the all-new Kindle Paperwhite, plus wireless charging, auto-adjusting front light, and 32 GB storage."

I got the 8 gb before xmas and I while I really like it, I feel like I've had to charge it 5 or 6 times already. My old paperwhite would always last a month or two on a charge.

My reading habits haven't changed: approx an hour a night with the brightness at medium, airplane mode on and BT off.

I guess my point being, the wireless would've been nice.

Can't argue that wireless is nice. But for you to have charged it that many times already, something is wrong.
Are you using Airplane mode? Do you use auto adjust lighting or keep it at higher brightness?
I read quite a bit, and I don't charge more than once a month. When wifi is on, I end up charging every week.

The normal one in the OP, and the paperwhite that happyappliances listed has ads? How often do you see them, pages per ad?

Thanks for the info. I know they advertise this 6.8" as supposedly having better battery life than the previous gen. So I was puzzled.
I got the 'low battery' warning again last night at 10% level and I couldn't even finish 50 pages without having to plug in.

I'm going to keep close track of my usage and charging intervals and I'll probably exchange it. I may have gotten a dud.

Ads are just shown in standby on the Lock Screen - doesn't disrupt active reading.

The ad free versions cost a bit more upfront to have ads turned off . If you buy and ad supported version - you can remove ads at anytime for $20.

The kids version is often considered the best deal because you're paying a small premium upfront to get more - same hardware, a nice case, no ads, and the 2 year warranty, which is an extra year from the standard.

Also just an FYI that you can turn off the kid mode easily on these and it's a regular Kindle with a better warranty and case.
