Was looking for a more accurate ear thermometer, as my wife wants me to stop traumatizing my toddler with a rectal reading. Braun is of the best brands for thermometers. Higher model versions have better features but aren't on sale at the moment. This one retails at $40-$50 elsewhere. Seems like a decent deal if you just need the basic ear thermometer.

these are useless for toddlers, certainly the younger end, as they take so damn long to produce a reading. this model is at least 10 years old and these devices have come a long way since 2020. brand names mean nothing for these products - in fact they are a negative.

you need to be pointing at the forehead without touching, and getting a reading in half a second - that thermometer can be had for $10 with funny chinese-sounding brand name - the chinese are producing thousands and they're tested in the field.

give this the thumbs-down ... but to paraphrase mike tyson: everyone has a great thermometer - until their child gets a fever.

I have 4 different thermometers… 2 forehead, 1 ear, and 1 regular one that I've used for toddler rectal temp. Except the regular one, I've had issues with the others being accurate (Chinese brands well rated on Amazon). So now I'm just going to get the best brand in market.

So if this still doesn't work, then I'll just go back to the butt stuff and a sad wife.

one thing about amazon is you are basically paying for the reviews - my strategy was to start with something that seemed legit in the $30-$40 area, discarding anything that had any history pre-2020, then drill down clicking on devices that looked identical until i arrived at $10 with a few dozen reviews. this was after the brand-name device purchased at walmart had failed.

we ended up with two good thermometers. good luck to you, i'll throw you a couple of amazon links if you'd like.

I think you're confusing this with the types that do forehead scans. This is an in-ear scanner and is highly accurate. I've had this exact model for a year and a half and it's been the best thermometer I've used with my kids. This is a terrific price too. I paid $55 back in spring 2020.

I picked up a braun thermoscan 5 (brand new in box) for $20 shipped from ebay a week ago.
